Is it wrong to bring a cat to a dog park?

AITAH for bringing my cat to the dog park? Cat parent faces backlash for including feline friend in outdoor fun - was it a misstep or a harmless adventure?

A 35-year-old cat parent showed up at the neighborhood dog park with her feline, Whiskers, fully leashed and tucked in her carrier, and still walked straight into side-eye and tension. The plan sounded simple, outdoor time for a curious cat who loves exploring new places and saying hi to strangers.

But the moment a dog started barking aggressively, everything shifted. Whiskers hissed, got anxious, and OP had to scoop her up and leave. Then, right as they were exiting, another dog owner confronted her, calling it irresponsible and dangerous to bring a cat into a dog park.

Now OP is stuck replaying the whole scene, wondering if she overstepped just trying to give Whiskers a little fun.

Original Post

So I'm (35F) a proud cat parent to my feline furball, Whiskers. We live near this amazing dog park where everyone from the neighborhood takes their pups for playtime.

For background, Whiskers loves exploring new places and socializing. I thought, why not give her a taste of the outdoor fun too?

So, I decided to take Whiskers to the dog park. As soon as we arrived, people's eyebrows raised, and I could feel the tension.

Some dog owners seemed uncomfortable with a cat around, but Whiskers was on a leash and in her carrier. Things were going fine until a dog started barking aggressively at us, causing Whiskers to hiss and get anxious.

I quickly picked her up and decided it was best to leave. However, on our way out, a dog owner approached me, expressing how irresponsible and dangerous it was to bring a cat to a dog park.

I was taken aback by the confrontation. Now, I'm reflecting on the situation and wondering, did I overstep by bringing Whiskers to the dog park?

I just wanted her to have a bit of outdoor enjoyment like the dogs. So AITAH?

It also echoes the “cat Whiskers” travel advice fight, where the OP rejected expert input.

The second Whiskers arrived in her carrier, the raised eyebrows from the dog owners made it clear this was not a welcome situation.

When the aggressive barking started, OP’s “this should be fine” moment flipped into hissing, anxiety, and an immediate exit.

As OP carried Whiskers out, that confrontational dog owner doubled down and told her bringing a cat was dangerous.

Now OP is trying to figure out whether her good intentions were enough, or if she should have kept Whiskers out of the dog park drama entirely.

Whiskers might just be happier at a place where the dogs are barking at somebody else.
