Aerosmith fans are asking if the Hollywood Bowl shows are the band’s last ever

Bill Burr called Aerosmith’s Hollywood Bowl run their final two shows. The band has not confirmed a farewell.

Aerosmith’s return to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl was billed as a comeback. By the end of opening night, many fans were wondering if it was actually a goodbye. At the Oct. 29 "California Dream On" concert, comedian Bill Burr welcomed the crowd by calling the event the "final two shows in Aerosmith’s history." The band has not confirmed that, and it has not commented on Burr’s remark.

That single line changed the temperature around a night that had been promoted as a celebration of Aerosmith’s return. Instead of simply marking a comeback, the Bowl run is now being watched as a possible closing chapter for one of rock’s longest running lineups.

The first show carried more than one hint that fans were witnessing something larger than a standard concert. Heart, Sammy Hagar, the Black Crowes and Guns N’ Roses all paid tribute to Aerosmith’s place in music history. The atmosphere was upbeat, but the repeated praise and gratitude gave the evening the feel of a sendoff.

Steven Tyler added to that impression during Aerosmith’s closing set. Before the band left the stage, he told the crowd, "Before we say goodnight, I just want to say what a ride it’s been with my brothers, Joe, Tom Brad and Joey." He also pointed to the group’s longevity, saying the same band had been together for fifty five and a half years.

There are practical reasons fans are reading the moment this way. Joey Kramer has dealt with shoulder and back injuries and has largely stepped away from performing. At the Bowl, he played only one song, his first Aerosmith appearance since 2020. Tyler’s own health has also affected the band’s plans. In 2023, damage to his larynx and vocal cords led Aerosmith to end what had been planned as a farewell tour.

The Hollywood Bowl set itself was shorter than the band’s typical 2022 Las Vegas residency shows, which averaged 18 songs. Tyler’s voice was described as still sounding strong, but the performance did not push through the demands of a full length concert.

What happens next is still unclear. Aerosmith has not said these are farewell shows. For now, the only other date on the schedule is Nov. 1 at the Hollywood Bowl. For fans, that means the next concert could be another comeback night, or something much more final.
