Jeremy Renner Confirms He Is Not in Avengers: Doomsday and Says the Team May Lose Without Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner says he is not returning as Hawkeye in Avengers: Doomsday, joking that the Avengers will probably lose without him.

Marvel fans hoping Hawkeye might show up in Avengers: Doomsday just got a blunt answer from Jeremy Renner. The actor says he is not in the film, and he leaned into the disappointment with a joke that the Avengers will probably lose without him.

Renner shut down the idea of a Doomsday appearance when asked directly whether he was coming back for the movie. His answer was a firm no, followed by a line fans will likely quote for a while: if Hawkeye is not there, he said, the Avengers will probably lose, and if that happens it is their fault because nobody called him.

That is the immediate change for MCU followers tracking the still-unfinished picture of who will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Renner says Hawkeye is not part of this one. The film is set for release on Dec. 18.

Even while ruling himself out of Doomsday, Renner pointed to another Avengers title that has him excited. He spoke positively about the theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame, which returned to cinemas ahead of Doomsday's release. For fans revisiting Clint Barton’s MCU run, Endgame remains one of the major chapters in that story.

Renner has played Hawkeye across several Marvel projects, including The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Endgame. He also appeared briefly in Thor and Captain America: Civil War.

His latest comments land after he made clear he was still interested in more Marvel work. In 2025, Renner said he was open to returning, whether that meant a second season of Hawkeye or something else in the MCU. He said he loves the character and the people involved, and added that he would be happy to come back. He also said his body was getting ready for that kind of role again, joking about how he would look in the costume.

At the time, Renner also said he had recovered more than 150 percent from his 2023 snowmobile accident and felt ready to perform his own stunts again for Marvel. He was hospitalized after his Sno-Cat, described as a large snow plow weighing at least 14,330 pounds, ran him over. The injuries included eight ribs broken in 14 places, breaks to his right knee and ankle, his left leg tibia, his left ankle, his right clavicle and his right shoulder, among other injuries.

So for now, the takeaway for Hawkeye fans is simple. Clint Barton is apparently sitting out Avengers: Doomsday, even if Renner sounds more than willing to return to the MCU somewhere else.
