Family Divides As Man Refuses To Pay The Difference Between His Kids' Paychecks

"She can make as much as her brother but she doesn’t want to carry heavy and dirty singles"

Children learn the importance of hard work, financial responsibility, and independence when they are allowed to work for their spending money. Parents encourage a strong work ethic while avoiding the obligation to pay for necessities.

They do this by dividing responsibilities into necessary home contributions and additional, entrepreneurial jobs. For the OP, he let his two college kids work part-time to earn spending money.

His kids live at home, and they pay for their tuition, cars, insurance, basically everything except their spending money. Now, the OP has his own small construction company and runs a crew of about 15 men, including his son.

Due to the dangerous and hard job his son does, he pays him about $25/hr. OP's daughter works as a cashier, but most of the time, she’s standing at the self-checkout lanes and rarely behind the register.

She’s paid about $15/hr. One thing led to the other, and she found out how much OP pays her brother.

Mind you, OP's son has been working with him for about 4 months, but his daughter never shown any interest in what they do. In fact, she never asked anything about his job or pay, so it came as a surprise to her.

A week-long argument ensued because of this, as OP's daughter thinks it’s unfair that her brother is making so much more than she is. OP offered her the same hourly wage if she wanted to join her brother on the roof, but things escalated from that point.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:

1.I’m refusing to pay my daughter as much as my son or make up the difference

2. He’s making $10/hr more than him

The OP left this update later on saying...

My wife doesn’t work, she stays at home and take care of our younger kids. I didn’t make it clear but our daughter works for a grocery store, not for me.I have a very small company. With 15 men, I have 2 crews on large jobs or 3 on smaller jobs. There’s no bookkeeping or other positions she can do because I do those on the weekends. There’s only the construction positions.

OP says that none of his kids have any interest in taking over his company, and it’ll close when he retires. He also mentioned that his son just got accepted into dental school and his daughter is almost done with her education degree.

Also, his younger kids have their own dreams. Redditors understood that, and in regard to his story, he was declared not the AH.
