Audacious Woman Reports Her Parents To The Police For Taking Loans In Her Name

"I feel bad for them but I'm not letting them f*ck up my future"

We’re taught from childhood that family is everything and that loyalty comes first. That you protect your parents, even when it costs you - especially when it costs you.

What no one prepares you for is the moment you realize that the people who raised you are also the people quietly dismantling your future. The OP didn’t discover that she had debts because she was reckless or irresponsible.

She found out because she tried to grow up. The OP has finished her third year of university, planned to move out, and suddenly hit an invisible wall.

Credit checks, paper trails, and questions she couldn’t answer—because she had never seen the bills. She didn’t even have a key to the mailbox, and all the while, her parents took out credit cards and loans in her name.

Initially, OP thought that her boyfriend was the problem, but the truth was uglier. Aside from the credit cards and loans in her name, there were balances piling up, payments missed, and $60,000 worth of decisions she never made.

Thankfully, OP's aunt let her stay over for some time, and yes, she did ask the OP a lot of questions. Then, she proceeded to show the OP a dozen Reddit posts about parents screwing up their kids' future and kids allowing it.

So the OP decided to take action as she wasn't about to let her parents ruin her future.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:

My parents used my name and information to take out $60,000 in loans and credit cards. I found out when I wanted to do a credit check. I might be the AH for not giving them a chance to explain and pay me back over time.

There could have been a moment where the OP had to decide who would pay for their choices. Is it them or her?

She should carry the debt, the silence, the guilt, and call it loyalty, or she could tell the truth and let consequences land where they belonged. Well, the OP chose her future.

She chose the life she hasn't built yet over the lies that already cost her enough. The OP didn’t choose punishment; she chose not to be punished for something she didn’t do, and she was declared not the AH.
