Star Wars’ 50th anniversary just pulled Spider-Man into A New Hope, and Marvel has shown the first pages

Marvel has unveiled a first look at Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a 2027 crossover comic tied to A New Hope’s 50th anniversary.

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars 50th anniversary plans already included a Welsh-language A New Hope, a museum exhibition and a theatrical return for the original film. Now one of the strangest entries in that lineup has a visual preview: a Marvel crossover that drops Luke Skywalker and company into Earth-616.

Marvel has released an early look at Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a six-issue comic series built around the events of A New Hope with Marvel heroes added to the story. The project brings Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Obi-Wan Kenobi together with characters including Spider-Man and the Avengers, while Darth Vader and Doctor Doom are paired on the villain side.

The newly shared artwork shows Captain America, Iron Man and Thor facing stormtroopers. Other revealed cover art pushes the mash-up further, including one image of Luke alongside Spider-Man and another of Vader wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. The comic also leans into a meta joke that Star Wars exists as a movie inside Marvel’s world. In one panel, Captain America asks Ben Grimm, the Thing, about the stormtroopers and refers to them as figures from the Star Wars film.

Kevin Smith is writing the series, with David Marquez on art. It is scheduled to begin in January 2027.

What else is in the Star Wars 50th anniversary lineup

Hope Assembles is part of a broader set of projects marking 50 years since A New Hope reached theaters in 1977. That same anniversary slate includes Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, a Welsh-language version of the original movie that is set to premiere on S4C and its streaming platforms on Christmas Day 2026.

Another anniversary project, Star Wars: The Experience: A Journey Through the Galaxy, is due to open at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute in February 2027. A New Hope is also set to return to theaters for a limited run starting February 19. On the comics side, the celebration will also include Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take, which retells the film through the separate perspectives of Luke, Leia and Han.

For Disney and franchise fans, the immediate change is simple: there is now a first visual sample of the Star Wars and Marvel crossover, and its release window is locked in for January 2027.
