Why December 16 Just Became the Date Marvel Fans Are Watching for Avengers: Doomsday
A UK and Ireland listing puts Avengers: Doomsday on Dec. 16, two days before its U.S. date, raising spoiler concerns for Marvel fans.
Marvel fans counting down to Avengers: Doomsday may need to watch one date earlier than expected. A newly listed UK and Ireland release on December 16 would put the film in theaters two days before Disney's still-listed U.S. opening on December 18.
A two day release gap has appeared
Disney continues to list Avengers: Doomsday for a December 18, 2026 U.S. theatrical release. But a theatrical calendar for the United Kingdom and Ireland now shows the film opening on December 16, 2026 in those markets.
The calendar is from Digital Cinema Media, which identifies Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International as the distributor for the UK and Ireland release. At the same time, Disney's own UK page still shows December 18, leaving a mismatch between the studio page and the newer cinema calendar.
If the December 16 listing holds, moviegoers in the UK and Ireland would get access to Marvel's next Avengers film two days before audiences in the United States. For fans hoping to avoid plot details before opening weekend, that change would take effect as soon as the earlier overseas screenings begin.
Why those 48 hours could matter
Avengers: Doomsday is being set up as one of Marvel's biggest theatrical releases of 2026, and the studio has kept much of the story under wraps. Disney's synopsis says heroes from three different universes will collide before facing an existential threat unlike anything they have faced before.
Marvel has also confirmed a large cast drawn from several corners of its screen history, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.
That lineup, plus Downey's return in a role other than Tony Stark, has fueled heavy early demand. The film passed $40 million in domestic advance ticket sales roughly 100 days before release, and Disney later said pre-sales had gone beyond $50 million about three months before opening. More than 70 percent of those sales were for Infinity Vision screenings, Disney's premium large-format label. The listed runtime is 165 minutes.
For fans waiting until December 18, the practical change is simple: spoiler risk may start on December 16 instead.
