Mother In Law Wants To Know If She's In The Wrong For Inviting Daughter In Law Without Her Son's Permission
Family drama is always something we like to be entertained by, and this is giving us all the satisfaction.
One mother-in-law thought she was doing the right thing by extending an invitation, but her son saw it as a major betrayal. The family tension in this story starts with a wedding invite, then quickly turns into a much bigger argument about control, marriage, and what is happening behind closed doors.
On Reddit, the poster explains that her son did not want his wife included, so she went ahead and invited the daughter-in-law anyway. That decision set off a reaction that made the situation feel a lot more serious than a simple family disagreement.
Now the comments are piling up, and plenty of people think the real issue goes far beyond the wedding. Was she wrong to step in?
The mother-in-law comes to Reddit on an AITA thread.
thtowRA579751She goes on to say that she ended up inviting her, and this is basically how her son reacted to that.
thtowRA579751That is where the family drama really starts to unfold.
Here come the comments in response to this post. They are telling the MIL that her son is definitely in the wrong.

People are telling her to help her daughter-in-law out of that situation, and quickly.

Several commenters think this is about a lot more than one wedding invitation.
Reddit commenters are speculating on where her son got this behavior from.

Another commenter says that her son, and definitely her husband, are in the wrong, and she did the right thing.
GoodnightSweetShoe
People are coming for the son's father, saying that he probably got that behavior from him.

"Sonny boy sure is." Yep, he's definitely in the wrong.

The comments keep getting more direct from here.
It also feels like the AITA where a couple asked their in-laws to pay for an extended stay.
Abuse is definitely not a light subject, and this should be considered abuse of some sort.

Yes, he definitely is controlling, and it seems that it's just going to get worse.
No-Names-Left-Here-
I agree that she should definitely stay in contact with her, just in case.
thirdtryisthecharm
This is so true. His issue was with her having fun, not that she wasn't doing her "job" or role.

This person said it best because this whole thing is a red flag.

THIS. A hostage situation right under your nose.

By now, Reddit is fully on the mother-in-law's side.
People seem to be in agreement with this situation.

She definitely should talk to her daughter-in-law to see exactly what is going on behind closed doors.
EliseCowry
She's definitely NTA, and everyone seems to agree.

This is honestly such a sad situation, but we are thankful for OP.
abcwva
Her son is by far the asshole.
Geoppertia_Insignis
She could use OP's help getting out of that situation.
CleanCucumber620
She may be in danger if she isn't already, because this stuff usually escalates.
ElleArr26
Some parents don't notice these types of things, so it's good that OP is.

This comment said it best.

After reading this story, it's hard to imagine that things like this go on every day, and not every MIL is as observant as OP was. Plus, a lot of people turn a blind eye to their children not acting right.
I think I speak for all of us when I say that I hope this situation gets resolved soon and without any more abuse. We are keeping OP and her DIL in our thoughts.
