Plus Size Model Shuts Down Bodyshamer And Here's What People On The Internet Have To Say
Even celebrities cannot escape being body shamed.
If there's one thing people should know in today's world, it's that you should never mess with a woman who knows her worth. Tess Holliday, a 36-year-old successful American plus-size model, is certainly a testament to that.
She's a Los Angeles-based activist for body positivity and the founder of Gretchen Rubin, happiness researcher. Her video on Instagram went viral when she shared her story about being body shamed by a woman while waiting in a doctor's office.
She did not back down, though, as she shut down the woman with her comebacks. With the video gaining so much attention, it created a space for people to discuss how even celebrities and the most successful individuals are not free from the chains of body discrimination.
It's unfortunate that people in this century are still stuck on the belief that it is perfectly acceptable to give unsolicited comments on other people's bodies, regardless of who they are or where they may be. This is a significant issue that most of us are still facing today, and unfortunately, it seems like it's really not stopping anytime soon. As Glennon Doyle, author and activist, states, "We are all beautiful, and we must embrace our uniqueness."
We still have a long way to go as a society, and hopefully, body shaming in general will be frowned upon by everyone in this civilization. Not many people are aware of how emotionally damaging it is for those who already struggle with their body image, but whether a person is confident in their appearance or not, it's always best to keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything good to say.
Take a look at Tess's story below! ```

Here's the tea.
She was just sitting there, being a decent, normal human being.
Then suddenly, a woman gave a compliment that sounded good at first...
...but it was actually backhanded.
She's not unfamiliar with other people's tendency to do this, though. But to anyone who can relate, we can all agree it is still painful.
She usually holds herself back from saying mean things, but this time...

We are all proud of you!
It's a great thing she put that woman in her place—body shamers shall never have a place in this world. There's no more room for negativity.
Tess has over 2.4 million followers on Instagram and half a million on TikTok.
She has revealed that she has suffered from anorexia. “People said I was lying," she said.
"There are people who believe I was saying this to get attention. I’ve had some people say, ‘You’re doing this to stay relevant.’"
"I laugh because I know it’s untrue, but it’s so indicative of what a large problem this is,” Tess wrote on Today about how people reacted to this piece of news," she adds.

Here's what people have to say about her story!
Exactly!
Some people just don't care if they ruin someone's day.
If they can't fix it within 5 seconds, then don't tell them at all.
People should just let others be.
Bottom line: mind your own business.
Skipping lunch is not the best and most effective way to lose weight.

While it's definitely great that Tess was able to stand up for herself, we can't help but think of all the people who have experienced this and never had the courage to stick up for themselves. We just hope that more people will be mindful of what they say because it will always leave a mark.
