Disney+ Has 2 Forgotten Disney Channel Halloween Movies With Hocus Pocus and WandaVision Stars

Disney+ subscribers can stream Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire and The Scream Team, two early Disney Channel Halloween movies.

Disney+ subscribers looking past Halloweentown have two lesser-known Disney Channel Halloween movies waiting in the lineup. Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire and The Scream Team are both currently streaming, with casts that now read very differently to Disney, Marvel and sitcom fans.

Two early 2000s Disney Channel Halloween picks are on Disney+

The two movies are Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire, which premiered on Oct. 13, 2000, and The Scream Team, which premiered on Oct. 4, 2002. Both are available on Disney+.

Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire starts with siblings Adam and Chelsea Hansen trying to set up their divorced mother, Lynette, with a charming man named Dimitri Dentatos so they can have the house to themselves. The plan changes once they realize Dimitri is a vampire, and they try to stop Lynette from becoming his everlasting soulmate. Steve Boyum directed the film.

The Scream Team follows siblings Ian and Claire Carlyle as they head to their grandfather's funeral in Steeple Falls. They learn the town helps process ghosts, and they end up dealing with an angry spirit that will not let their grandfather rest. Three ghosts step in to help during the town's Halloween festival. Stuart Gillard directed that movie.

Why these titles may feel more familiar now

For Disney fans, part of the fun is spotting cast members whose later credits became much bigger draws. Caroline Rhea plays Lynette in Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire, while Charles Shaughnessy plays Dimitri and Robert Carradine appears as vampire hunter Malachi Van Helsing. Matthew O'Leary, Laura Vandervoort and Myles Jeffrey play the children.

The Scream Team has Kathy Najimy as Mariah, Eric Idle as Coffin Ed and Tommy Davidson as Jumper. Kat Dennings plays Claire, years before WandaVision, and Kim Coates plays the villain, Zachariah Kull.

Both movies are rated TV-PG on Disney+. Common Sense Media recommends each for ages 8 and up. It describes the horror in Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire as mostly played for laughs, with moments including a vampire being hit with a wooden stake, trances and a near-bite. The Scream Team is described as a little more gross-out, with fireballs and exaggerated ghost effects such as faces in walls and eyes popping out. Disney+ lists The Scream Team at 1 hour, 28 minutes, making it an easy seasonal watch for subscribers who want a Disney Channel Halloween title outside the usual rotation.
