Neighbor Starts Fight Over Water for Stray Cat: AITA for Clapping Back?
Neighbor's outrage over offering water to a stray cat leads to a brewing conflict, leaving OP questioning if their response was justified.
A parking lot bowl of water turned into a full-on neighborhood feud, and somehow it’s the stray cat that’s getting blamed for it. The OP says they’ve been leaving fresh water out for a cat that’s been around their building for ages, not bothering anybody, just trying to keep an animal from being thirsty.
Then one neighbor decided this was a personal attack. They claimed the OP was “inviting pets” even though it’s literally just a bowl of water, and the OP clapped back with a “get a life, mind your own business.” Now the neighbor is threatening to take it to the landlord, even though the water is nowhere near the doors.
When a simple kindness turns into a landlord showdown, you have to wonder who’s really escalating things.

I've been leaving a bowl of water out in the parking lot for a stray cat that hangs around our building. One of my neighbors is totally losing it over it and says I'm inviting pets even though it's just water for a cat that's been here forever. I told him to get a life and mind his own business. It's not even close to the doors, but now they're threatening to tell the landlord.
I don't think a bowl of water for a thirsty animal is a big deal, but he is making it a whole thing.

This neighbor drama is similar to someone refusing to host Thanksgiving amid an ongoing family feud.

The OP figured a water bowl was harmless, but the neighbor treated it like an open invitation to chaos, and that’s where the tension started.
After the OP told him to get a life, the neighbor took it from annoyed to furious, and now the landlord is being threatened.
The funniest part is the OP insists it’s not even close to the doors, yet the neighbor still thinks it’s “inviting pets.”
So now everyone’s stuck in the parking lot drama, wondering if the OP’s clap back was justified or just poured gasoline on the situation.

If the neighbor keeps escalating a water bowl into a landlord issue, he might be the only one who ends up losing sleep.
