Your Favorite Applications Would Look Like This If Launched In The '90s

These applications look better than the original versions with the '90s old-school makeover.

We have come a long way since the evolution of technology. The difficulty was the internet and the websites with simple coding, along with the complexity of understanding the user interface of those websites.

It was simple yet the most beautiful thing for us. Those were the days when we thought that spending time with a virtual pet, I mean Tamagotchis, was the most fun thing to do, and playing Snakes and Ladders was the best mobile game ever.

Back in the '90s, we didn't know the advanced uses of the internet and the high-end technology that we know today, yet the coders managed to create websites that had a particular look that seemed way too advanced for that era.

Now the world has moved far beyond those repeating pattern backgrounds, the pointy cursor, and the rectangular drop boxes, if you can recall these. If you cannot conjure up that UI image of the website from the '90s era, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

Several designers from Zyro came up with a unique thought: What if the most popular apps of the Gen Alpha era were made in the Gen Z era? What would they look and work like?

To satisfy their curiosity, they took a few of the most popular and trending apps today and gave them a makeover inspired by the '90s. Take a look at these and share them with your '90s friends who would want to see this user interface again—or maybe not!

1. YouTube: The digital video respiratory! #watchallday

YouTube made its debut in 2005, and ever since then, it has taken over the world of music and videos. Who knew that this application, with loads of ad-free videos (back in those days), could keep amateurs occupied for hours? What’s a better way to kill time than YouTube?

2. Spotify: Certainly all our favorite tunes in one place! #musicallday

When Spotify launched in 2006, it took the world of music—audio music, to be specific—to a whole new level. Though it launched as an application, perhaps if it had been found a few years earlier, let’s say in 2000, we would have witnessed this lime green floppy disk.

It kind of looks cool, doesn’t it?

3. Twitter: Making the hashtags popular. #Tweetsof90s

Introduced in the mid-aught years, specifically in 2006, it threw off the Super Mario vibes with the cloudy background and the tiny bluebird. No wonder it attracted young kids and adults alike.

If this had been introduced in the '90s, people would have gone crazy spending their money on this irresistible app because, please note, it requires a computer connected to the web.

4. Facebook: Connecting people around the globe. #friendrequestaccepted

Facebook, now known as Meta, is undoubtedly one of the most popular social media applications of all time. Since its launch in 2004, it has been far more popular than expected.

People have been creating their profiles ever since it began, and from then, we have seen numerous alterations and advancements in its looks and functions. But who knew that the version before the launch date would have been more interesting?

5. Twitch: Of course, we’re one among you. #gameandstream

Twitch is one of the latest applications made explicitly for gaming or streaming live video games. Nowadays, all that’s trending on Twitch is Call of Duty and Fortnite.

But if it had begun in the '90s, it would have featured games like Street Fighter and Super Mario. Also, I take no responsibility for the quality.

6. Airbnb: Transforming the way people travel. #Traveldiaries

Initially, this application was known as AirBed and Breakfast when it was released in 2006. Later, the name was shortened to Airbnb, which sounded better and was easier to remember.

This transformation to the '90s version of the website isn’t promising at all. The images are grainy, and the website seems to have been altered stereotypically for girls.

It looks more like a Barbie vacation dream house to me...

7. WhatsApp: Stay in touch but virtually. #messageaandconnect

I wonder if Jan Koum ever thinks about why this idea didn’t come to his mind back in 2009 when he invented this virtual messaging app? Sometimes, old school is better than some of the latest technologies and advanced features.

Even though WhatsApp is a fast and straightforward messaging application, we all want the floppy disk version. Also, the various categories like buddies, family, and work are great ideas that we should incorporate into the present version.

8. Disney+: Binge-watch your favorite shows. #disneyandchill

People of all age groups have shown interest in Disney+ since it was introduced in the market in 2019. It is the latest application but looks the fanciest and most attractive when switched over to the '90s theme.

The kids would surely prefer the '90s version over the original one. Keeping the target user in mind, the font and the color-changing feature is an incredibly genius thought.

These applications had the most fabulous makeover of all time and will be fun and exciting to use with the change in their interface, provided they maintain excellent speed.

Share these great applications with their new look with your tech enthusiast friends and family members and find out if they love this as much as you do and if they would want to try this over the original version?
