Vengeful Man Left A Bad Review Because A Comic Book Store Employee Wouldn’t Help Him Pirate Comics

This guy seriously doesn’t understand why bootlegging is not okay #ChoosingBeggars

Some people walk into a comic book store looking for new issues, and some walk in expecting the staff to help them pirate comics for free. This Yelp review from a Challengers customer lands firmly in the second category, and it gets worse the more he explains himself.

Posted by u/Felipegarza, the screenshot shows a reviewer complaining that an employee confronted him after he admitted he was checking for titles he had not downloaded yet. Instead of seeing the problem, he doubled down and turned the whole thing into a rant about bad service, high prices, and a store that supposedly deserved to fail.

The reaction online was exactly what you would expect, and the comments do not let him off easy.

“Rudest. Employee. Ever.”

Yeah, man.

He continues, “I was in the area and went to Challengers just to see if there were any new comic titles that I may have missed downloading digital versions of.”

He describes how he was approached by an employee, whom he describes very rudely: “This sloppy, fat, tattooed guy with a messy beard that looked like a bird’s nest walks up to me and asks if I’m looking for something specific.”

“I told him no; I’m just looking to see if there are any new titles out that I may have missed putting on my list of comic titles to download off the internet,” the reviewer continued. Of course, the employee was not too happy to hear about his plans.

The real-life Comic Book Guy continues:

“Then the dude goes off on me, telling me I shouldn’t download pirate comics and that I should buy them to support the industry, blah, blah, blah… Sorry, with comic books going for $5.00+ a book these days, I’m not going to spend money on something I can get off the web for free.”

The proper thing to do would be to avoid telling the truth about what you’re doing. The reviewer didn’t think so.

“If the dude didn’t like that I wasn’t buying anything, he should have kept his mouth shut,” he says. “You don’t go off on people like that. Talk about being TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL! With an employee like that, this comic book shop deserves to go belly up with the rest of the comic book shops dropping like flies.”

It also echoes a friend offering $500 for rent, only to buy a gaming console instead.

“Comic book shops dropping like flies.” Why do you think that is happening? Maybe because of people like you?

People on r/ChoosingBeggars are mostly shocked by the reviewer’s obvious lack of understanding that he and folks like him are the real reason comic book stores are closing down left and right.
