Middle-Aged Woman Busted Lying to the Flight Attendant to Get Teenager Out of the Seat She Wanted
She played the age card, the physical card, and the entitlement card, but she was surprised that none of them worked.
Adults often underestimate what younger people can do and are surprised when they stand up for themselves. It's like always following the rule of "the customer is always right," but in this case, they’re always the customers.
This is how these kinds of people end up being blasted on social media, especially on Reddit. In a subreddit post called r/AmItheAsshole, a Karen of an adult tried to manipulate an 18-year-old into giving her the window seat in an exit row on a flight.
Of course, OP, who was clearly checked in first, explained why she shouldn’t move just because the middle-aged woman told her to. The situation was prolonged until a flight attendant intervened since it was causing a delay.
The middle-aged woman lied to the flight attendant, which OP immediately countered by telling her the truth. The older woman was appalled at the audacity of OP and called her a derogatory name.
OP, who had never encountered something like that in the many times she had flown, was confused about whether she was really in the wrong in this situation. She took to Reddit to find out if others shared her sentiments, and it seems that the majority of people are on her side.
Here is the post by OP
evvelfondIt was already a routine for OP and her family to check her in for a flight early
evvelfondOP described where she was seated

Then the middle-aged lady came

OP called her out on her lie

But the lady argued condescendingly

The lady was trying to gain an advantage over OP
evvelfond
And even tried to get the flight attendant on her side

It didn't work in her favor, and she even cursed at OP

Let’s start with a couple of reasons why OP isn’t the a**hole

It might have always been a ploy of hers to get people to give the seat to her
PM_ME_YOUR_ISOTOPES
OP was right to inform the flight attendant about the truth

There could’ve been a better way for the lady to ask OP if she could have the seat instead

The woman was going off about OP not being able to help in the exit row if there was an emergency, but it seems as if she doesn’t qualify in that area as well

The rule from the previous comment also applies to American flights

OP might’ve had a better chance of helping with the emergency exit

A Redditor asked how people who are possibly the same build as the middle-aged woman make their airplane experience more comfortable

This was both a read and a bit of advice if the middle-aged woman really wanted to sit comfortably throughout the flight
Witchywomun
She could have checked in early like OP did or seized an opportunity like this

If she had actually paid for it, unlike the lie she told, then she would’ve been entitled to the seat

There were so many other ways that the middle-aged woman could’ve gotten what she wanted and needed instead of being condescending to OP, and she didn’t take any of those chances

It was good that OP stood up for herself and smartly defended herself instead of stooping down to that lady’s level

It doesn’t matter if they’re older or whatever age they are; if you know you’re in the right, then you shouldn’t be bullied out of anything. It’s tough sometimes, especially in encounters like OP’s, but hopefully, you win those battles.
As Redditors mentioned, she could’ve taken different approaches to resolve or prevent her problem, but she didn’t. OP wasn’t to blame in the situation, according to the majority of votes.
