Why Elsa Is in Italy: runDisney’s 2027 Wine and Dine Reveal Has EPCOT Fans Double Checking the Map

runDisney has revealed 2027 Wine and Dine themes, but some EPCOT pavilion pairings have fans wondering what happened.

runDisney has already pulled back the curtain on the 2027 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, even though the 2026 event has just wrapped. The new artwork confirms the race themes and character lineup, but it is also prompting one immediate question from Disney fans: why do several of the World Showcase pairings look unexpected?

The 2027 weekend is being framed around World Showcase tastes and tales. On the official artwork, each featured character appears in front of an EPCOT pavilion, wearing a gold distance badge and surrounded by food tied to the Wine and Dine theme.

In the Instagram post below, the newly released art lays out all four race looks at once.

Abu fronts the 5K. He is shown with a kebab skewer and a tomato slice, while the backdrop appears to be the Norway Pavilion. Pinocchio leads the 10K, with tomatoes and what resembles mozzarella and basil around him, but the building behind him looks like a tower from the Morocco Pavilion. Elsa is featured on the half marathon art in a pale blue and white outfit, with two pastries nearby, while the background resembles the Italy Pavilion campanile. Sam Eagle appears with The American Adventure, a cheeseburger and a hot dog for the 19.3 mile distance.

What changed for runners

The biggest update is simple: the 2027 character themes are now public. That matters for runners who plan their weekends around specific race themes, merchandise, and medal speculation, even though runDisney has not yet released dates, pricing, registration details, or medal designs for 2027.

Sam Eagle also appears to be the face of the 19.3 mile challenge, which combines the 10K and half marathon. That pairing has not been officially confirmed as the challenge branding, but the distance matches the combined races.

Why the artwork is getting attention

The curiosity comes from how the character and pavilion choices line up. Pinocchio is famously associated with Italy, yet his race art appears tied to Morocco. Elsa comes from a world often linked by fans to Norway, but her artwork seems to place her in Italy. Abu, from Agrabah, is matched with Norway. Sam Eagle in the American pavilion is the one combination that reads as the most straightforward.

That does not necessarily mean anything is wrong. The theme is World Showcase tastes and tales, not a stated promise that each character will match the country behind them. Still, the unusual combinations stand out because the 2026 Wine and Dine weekend used cleaner pavilion connections, including The Aristocats for a France themed 5K and The Three Caballeros for a Mexico themed 10K.

What has not been announced yet

runDisney has not shared 2027 race dates or prices. For comparison, the 2026 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend took place from October 23 through 25. Prices with fees for that event were listed at $125 for the 5K, $175 for the 10K, $269 for the half marathon, and $449 for the Two Course Challenge.

Every race for the 2026 weekend sold out ahead of time, and registration opened in February. Anyone hoping to run in 2027 now knows the themes, but the remaining logistics are still to come.
