Hate speech on social media is often followed by hate crimes and violence. It can easily pave the way for the dehumanization and normalization of hatred.

As a result, we must learn from history and devote all of our efforts to eradicating hate speech from the online space. What makes this especially difficult is that we, as a society, have much to learn about calling out injustice and speaking up for the defenseless.
