Responsible Dad Presses Charges Against His Son's Ex-Girlfriend for Vandalizing His Car
It was all caught on camera, and she showed no remorse about it.
OP has a 17-year-old son, Bryce, who started dating their 17-year-old neighbor, Lana. They dated for a year, but OP admits he and his wife never liked Lana.
He says there's something off about the teenager that always unsettled them. For example, she shows up at their house at all hours if Bryce fails to answer her calls.
They were also afraid that he was being abused by Lana because she is controlling and aggressive. She repeatedly yells that Bryce is a cheater, knowing it is factually untrue.
OP and his wife tried to show their son that this relationship was not healthy by any stretch. They wanted to, but did not force the breakup, fearing Lana would lash out against Bryce.
Still, Bryce broke up with Lana without any issues—or so it seemed. It was odd to all of them that Lana did not try contacting Bryce immediately after the breakup; it was out of character for her.
Here comes the issue: OP and his wife bought Bryce a car for Christmas. It was nothing fancy, but it was a functional car that made commuting easier for Bryce, and it’s a car he can use when he goes to college.
Bryce always parks the car outside in their driveway. Lately, they have been finding some minor scratches on the car, and they knew that Lana was behind this.
They have CCTV footage to prove this but decided not to make an issue out of it since the scratches were not serious. OP, on the other hand, had a gut feeling that Lana was not done causing damage, so he trained one of the CCTVs directly onto Bryce's car.
A few weeks later, they woke up to find their son's car severely damaged. It was covered in glue, feathers, and confetti; there was paint all over, the handles were wrecked, and the tires were all flat.
The family called the police and handed over the footage of Lana and her brother destroying the car. They pressed charges against the siblings, and the brother went straight to jail.
Lana was a minor and couldn't be detained, and her parents asked to settle this outside of the system. OP refused to make a deal.
Just before the police arrived, he saw Lana laughing hard and showing no signs of remorse for what they did.
OP and his wife believe that Lana should face the consequences of her actions and are refusing to back down. Lana's parents are promising to send her to therapy and buy Bryce a better car if OP accepts the deal.

She can't even admit responsibility for it.

They need Big Ben to wake this family up.

That is, if you assume that the adult brother is a decent person.

But Lana could have also influenced the brother by feeding him false information about Bryce.

If she can wreck a car easily, this girl will have no problem lying.

No matter what the brother heard, it still does not excuse him for aiding his sister in committing a crime.

It runs in the family (maybe).

Apparently, it comes naturally to the brother, and OP thinks Lana had to do a lot of persuading.

Get a great lawyer and draft thorough terms.

How is Bryce holding up after all of this?

OP and his wife are amazing parents, and we hope they know they are doing a great job.

Seventeen years old is enough to recognize right from wrong.

They finally met their match, and their money is useless in this situation.

If Lana gets a get-out-of-jail-free card in this, she will keep causing damage.
Jaded-Artichoke-8398
They probably excused their children's behaviors and used their money to get them out of trouble.
ucnkissmybarbie
She has to know how much damage she caused.

Assuming that this is Bryce's first real relationship, it's one hell of an eye-opener. He will definitely be more cautious with the people he dates in the future.
It's great that Bryce has an amazing support system with his parents. They recognized early on that the relationship was unhealthy and got their son out before Lana caused any long-term emotional damage.
