VisionQuest Episode 6 Quietly Hid The Watcher, and Marvel Just Made It Official
A blink and you miss it Watcher cameo in VisionQuest Episode 6 has been confirmed by showrunner Terry Matalas.
Marvel fans who paused VisionQuest Episode 6 for the obvious surprises still may have missed the smallest one. Showrunner Terry Matalas has confirmed that Uatu the Watcher appears briefly in "Deadlock," turning a split second background detail into the episode's newest talking point.
The confirmed cameo lands during the standoff in Madripoor involving Vision, Paladin, Raza Hamidmi al Wazar and Raza's men. As the mysterious Client takes over nearby screens and speaks through a bank of televisions, a humanoid outline with glowing eyes is visible in a doorway on the right side of the frame. The moment lasts about a second, around the 32:40 mark, which helps explain why so many viewers missed it on first watch.
Matalas confirmed on X that the figure is Uatu the Watcher. For Disney+ viewers, that means Episode 6 now carries one more Marvel connection than it seemed to at first glance. "Deadlock" is already notable for bringing back Raza, the villain who held Tony Stark captive in Iron Man, but the Watcher reveal adds a very different kind of MCU callback.
In Marvel lore, the Watchers are observers and record keepers of the universe's history, with Uatu as the best known member. He is known for watching events unfold rather than stepping in, even if that rule does not always hold. In the MCU, Uatu previously appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, served as the narrator of the animated What If...?, and has also turned up in X Men '97 and Daredevil: Born Again.

Why this tiny shot matters
The placement of the cameo is what has fans reading into it. VisionQuest has made Ultron a major part of the story, and Episode 6 also shows Jocasta planning to spread nanites across the globe and remake humanity in her image. That kind of threat fits the sort of turning point Uatu has been shown watching before.
There is also a more direct Ultron connection in Marvel animation. In What If...? Season 1's "What If... Ultron Won?" an alternate Ultron becomes aware of the Watcher and battles him across the multiverse after gaining the Infinity Stones. That history does not confirm a live action rematch is coming, and without the Stones the same kind of fight looks unlikely. Still, the cameo makes one thing clear for anyone streaming VisionQuest on Disney+ now: Marvel wants viewers to know that somebody very important is watching this story unfold.
