Redditors Shared What They Think Are Toxic Things But Are Disguised As Wholesome Deeds
You might want to think twice before you click on those animal rescue videos
What really is wholesome in this world is becoming confusing with each passing day. Good deeds are never as pure as people think, and you may doubt if you’re stuck in another episode of ‘The Good Place.’
Donations to the poor, giving food to the homeless, and other kind acts are exploited in this modern era. There are often intentions that go beyond simply wanting someone’s day to be better because of those gifts.
They turn toxic instead. Those good deeds become a platform for people on social media and companies to show they're doing the bare minimum with kindness when, in reality, they’re using it for clout.
Then the act becomes common, and suddenly most people don’t see the wrongness behind it. It disadvantages those causes that actually need attention without having the helpers advertised.
Suddenly, you see people filming themselves while they hand out cash to beggars and taking hundreds of selfies as they volunteer during donation drives. It gets bigger, with companies ‘fighting’ against climate change but producing enough waste to counteract their words or throwing large events to fundraise.
In a r/AskReddit post, this was the topic, and a Redditor was curious about what people thought were toxic things when they are considered wholesome, and many contributed answers. It’s messy, but it might help people be more aware the next time they participate in things like these.

It might be sad to hear that many of us are desensitized to situations like the ones we mentioned. Although it’s best that people can be made aware, and maybe they would refrain from doing or supporting these kinds of deeds.
There's always hope for us to remember that there are still pure things in this world. It’s just a bit complicated now.
Do you have anything to add to the list? You can write it down in the comments.
