Disney’s Pooh centennial peaks on Oct. 14 with Ty plush, EPCOT Wishables and new books

Winnie the Pooh turns 100 on Oct. 14, with Disney and Ty rolling out plush, books, artwork and a Pooh-themed pop-up.

Winnie the Pooh reaches a major milestone on Oct. 14, marking 100 years since A.A. Milne’s first Winnie-the-Pooh book was published in 1926. For Disney fans, the biggest new pieces of the celebration are landing around the birthday itself, from Ty plush and Walt Disney World Wishables to fresh books and anniversary artwork.

Oct. 14 is the date Disney’s Pooh push is building toward

Disney began a yearlong Winnie the Pooh celebration in March under the banner “Live the Hunny Life,” pairing a short video on its YouTube channel with a wide merchandise program.

That lineup stretches well beyond plush. Disney’s anniversary list has included LEGO sets, Loungefly bags, Funko figures, Yogi honey chamomile tea, Wet Brush hairbrushes, and apparel from GAP and Old Navy. Pandora and Squishmallows were also listed for later in the year.

In early October, Disney added new 100th anniversary artwork showing Pooh rising toward a beehive with a red balloon while his friends look on from below. For fans tracking what is new right now, the Oct. 14 birthday is the clear focal point.

What changed for shoppers and park visitors

Ty has introduced a Winnie the Pooh collection tied to the centennial, giving the Beanie Babies maker a place in the birthday rollout. The assortment includes Beanie Babies, Beanie Bouncers and Beanie Babies clips featuring Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. Each item is priced at $6.99 at select stores and online, and Pooh’s version includes Ty’s signature heart tag.

Walt Disney World visitors also have a new Pooh item to hunt for. A Christmas Shimmer Wishables mystery box set featuring Pooh and friends has arrived at the resort. Each box costs $17.99 and contains one of five holiday-themed plush characters: Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore or Roo. The figures wear seasonal accessories such as Santa hats and scarves, and the character inside stays a surprise until the box is opened. The set was spotted at Discovery Traders in EPCOT.

There is also a books and experiences side to the anniversary

Disney Publishing marked the occasion with new titles including Winnie the Pooh: 100 Mindful Moments and Wonders of the Hundred-Acre Wood Treasury.

The celebration also reached New York Comic Con. From Oct. 9 through Oct. 11, the Daily Provisions cafe at Manhattan West was transformed into a Hundred Acre Wood pop-up with Pooh decor, honey-inspired treats and additional surprises.

For Disney parks fans, Pooh’s anniversary also highlights how established he remains across the resorts. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh continues at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland has Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, and at Magic Kingdom, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet can usually be found visiting tables during meals at The Crystal Palace.
