9-year-old was about to score in Wisconsin youth game when an adult ran onto the field and tripped him

A youth football game in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, took a bizarre turn when a parent left the sideline and got involved in the play itself. The adult ran onto the field and tripped a 9-year-old player who was heading toward what looked like a touchdown.

The incident happened last Saturday during a U-10 game in Mount Pleasant. Video shared from the game shows the child running toward the pylon when the adult came onto the field and put out his leg, bringing the runner down before he could reach the end zone.

Police in Mount Pleasant later located the man and issued him a citation for disorderly conduct. He was reported to have admitted he was wrong and to have cooperated with authorities.

The child who was tripped plays for the Case Eagles. His coach, Channing Schultz, said he has witnessed fights and other ugly scenes around youth sports before, but had never seen a grown man run onto the field during a game. Schultz said he believed the man's actions were intentional and that he was trying to hurt the boy.

According to Schultz, the man was the father of a player on the opposing team. Schultz also said the Milwaukee Colts have banned the parent from attending games. The Case Eagles are scheduled to play the Colts again in two weeks.

Schultz said the 9-year-old is doing fine. He described the player as tough and said it did not surprise him that the boy got back up and was ready to keep playing. Schultz also called him soft-spoken, hardworking and naturally talented.

What changed after the incident is now clear. The parent has been cited by police and, according to Schultz, has been barred from games by the opposing team. The child involved returned to play and is said to be okay.
