How Connor’s EPCOT Food Tour Turned Into a Chef Goofy Surprise, a Personalized Coat, and Dinner at Space 220
Connor came to EPCOT to sample Food and Wine dishes with Disney chefs. His Make-A-Wish day became a cooking adventure with Goofy and Space 220.
The moment that seems to capture Connor’s EPCOT wish best did not happen at a festival booth. It happened in a backstage kitchen, where his favorite character, Goofy, was waiting and a personalized green chef coat turned a tasting day into something much bigger. Connor had arrived expecting to eat his way around Walt Disney World with Disney chefs. What he found was a full culinary story built around the food, the people who make it, and a wish designed with unusual care.
Connor’s wish centered on food, but not simply on trying as many dishes as possible. He wanted to explore Walt Disney World through its chefs and learn more about the nostalgic food themes that shape Disney dining. Because he has a neurological condition that may affect his ability to enjoy food later in life, Disney’s culinary team built an experience meant to carry extra weight for him and for his family.
That is part of what makes the green chef coat such a telling image. By the time Connor reached the backstage kitchen at EPCOT, he had already been tasting his way through the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Then the day shifted. Chef Goofy greeted him there, and Chef Eddie presented him with a personalized coat in his own shade of green. In a visit already built around food, that gesture changed Connor from guest to honorary member of the Disney Culinary crew.
The stop also delivered something most park visitors never see. After time out in the festival booths and public dining spaces, Connor got to step into a kitchen area that does not appear on a typical theme park map. For a wish focused on how Disney food works, not just how it tastes, that backstage turn became one of the clearest signs that the day was being shaped around his curiosity.

A wish that started before Florida
The experience did not begin when Connor entered EPCOT. It started back home in Minnesota, where several Disney chefs helped set the tone before the family ever reached Florida.
Chefs Eddie, Amanda, Tony, Daniel, and Marco assembled a welcome package ahead of the trip. They included Disney merchandise featuring Connor’s favorite character, Goofy. Other cast members from around the park added cards for Connor and his family, each sharing excitement for the visit.
When Connor and his family arrived at EPCOT, the gathering point was World Celebration Gardens. The chefs who would stay with them throughout the experience met them there. EPCOT Vice President Matt Simon also visited at the beginning of the day. There were introductions and photos near the Walt Disney statue. Then the attention turned to the question the entire wish had been building toward: what to eat first.

Four festival stops, and the stories behind the food
Connor’s tasting tour took him through four Global Marketplaces at the festival: The Fry Basket, Brew-Wing Lab at The Odyssey, Milled & Mulled, and The Wedge hosted by Dairy Does More.
At each stop, food and beverages were ready for him when he arrived. Just as important, the chefs stayed with him and used each marketplace as a chance to explain what was on the plate and what was happening behind the counter. They shared the backstory of different dishes, talked through how the marketplace kitchens and grills operate, and added some of their own Food and Wine facts and stories.
That balance between tasting and learning seems to have been the point. Connor did not just move from booth to booth collecting samples. He was getting a guided look at how Disney’s culinary teams think about menu items, how festival locations function, and how stories can travel through food.
A couple of items stood out enough to earn specific approval from him. The fried pickle spears at Brew-Wing Lab got a thumbs up, and so did the Cannoli Milk Shake from The Wedge. Those honorable mentions help sketch the day in a more personal way. They show Connor as more than the subject of a wish story. He was also a guest with definite taste, making favorites as he went.

From sampling dishes to making them
After the festival stroll and the kitchen surprise with Chef Goofy, Connor’s day moved into a more hands-on phase at Connections Café & Eatery.
There, alongside Chef Joey, he took part in a make-your-own pizza experience. He prepared a pepperoni pizza and got a practical look at the culinary process while doing it. The report of the day makes a point of describing him as rolling up the sleeves of that chef coat, which is exactly the kind of detail that ties the earlier gift to what came next. The coat was not just a keepsake. Connor wore it into the work.
Once the pizza was in the oven, the sweet course followed. With Chef Amanda, Connor made a Liège waffle. That pairing of a classic pizza and a dessert rounded out the experience in a way the earlier festival tastings could not. Sampling let him discover what Disney chefs serve. Cooking let him participate in how some of that food comes together.
For the chefs, the day also carried its own meaning. Their work is rooted in making memorable experiences through food, and this wish gave them the chance to share that craft directly with Connor.

The last reservation was 220 miles up
The final stop was Space 220 Restaurant, where Connor and his family ended the day with dinner. After festival tastings, a backstage kitchen visit, photos with Goofy, a personalized chef coat, pizza making, and a Liège waffle, the meal at Space 220 served as the capstone.
The day also fits into a larger Disney tradition. Disney describes itself as the world’s largest wish granter for Make-A-Wish, saying that a Disney wish is granted every hour of every day. Connor’s experience at EPCOT shows how broad those wishes can be. This one was not built around a single ride, character meeting, or meal. It was structured as a culinary journey, with Disney chefs guiding him through food locations, kitchen spaces, and cooking tasks tied to what he loves.
His mother, Jessica, summed up the significance in words that reach beyond the menu. “Our medical journey has been filled with many triggers, many things that have been sad, hard, and overwhelming,” she said. “But it’s also been full of many glamorous things that bring me hope, that bring me strength and courage. Today was probably one of the best days.”
That may be why the image that lingers is not any single dish. It is Connor in that green chef jacket, moving through EPCOT as a guest, a student, and for one day, an honorary Disney chef.
