Woman Suffers Agony As Blood Supply To Mouth Cut Off After 'Routine' Lip Filler Operation
A woman experiences severe distress after undergoing what was supposed to be a routine lip filler procedure.
A 27-year-old woman in Brazil thought a “routine” lip filler appointment would be a quick upgrade, but it turned into a medical nightmare. Nutritionist Barbara Martiniano says she ended up in agony, with her mouth’s blood supply allegedly cut off after the procedure.
What makes her story so gutting is the way it started: she booked at a clinic inside a well-known shopping center, part of a national franchise, and she even checked the exact hyaluronic acid brand beforehand. She felt fine at first, then about 24 hours later the pain hit, throbbing and relentless, lasting for days as her lips worsened and peeled.
And when the person who was supposed to treat her was “not available that day,” Barbara’s desperation escalated fast.

A woman has revealed how a routine lip filler procedure left her fighting for her life in the hospital. Nutritionist Barbara Martiniano, 27, from Brazil, has warned others after she was left in agony from the filler, which cut off the blood supply to her mouth.
"I never anticipated that such a routine procedure could lead to such severe complications," Barbara shared with local media.
"I assumed that since I was getting it done at a clinic located in a well-known shopping center and part of a national franchise, I would receive professional treatment."
Barbara’s choice to go ahead the same day, after confirming the hyaluronic acid, is what makes the rapid switch from “normal healing” to “unbearable pain” hit even harder.
Barbara revealed that she had thoroughly researched the procedure before deciding to go through with it. She even knew the specific type of hyaluronic acid that the clinic would be using.
"I made sure to research the type of hyaluronic acid they were using. After determining that it was of high quality, I decided to go ahead with the procedure that same day," she explained.
"However, around 24 hours later, I began experiencing intense pain and throbbing in my lips. This continued for three days, but I assumed it was just a normal part of the healing process. The dentist who performed the procedure had mentioned that some discomfort in the area was to be expected."
After three days of throbbing and needing stronger medication than she’d ever used, Barbara watched the pain escalate while the clinic told her the operator was unavailable.
It’s a similar “AITA” standoff to the one where a friend’s negligence sent a pet to the emergency vet, and the pet sitter refused reimbursement.
"However, the pain became unbearable, and I had to resort to taking medication. I've never had to rely on painkillers to this extent before," Barbara lamented. Her concerns escalated when she spoke to her mother-in-law, who had undergone the same procedure without experiencing any adverse effects.
"At the clinic, they informed me that the person who performed the procedure was not available that day," she recounted.
"Despite experiencing severe pain and observing that it was worsening each day, I held onto the hope that everything would eventually resolve itself.
"However, as the pain and peeling intensified during the night, I reached out to a friend who is a dentist specializing in facial harmonization.
"She conducted a blood flow test and discovered that there was no circulation reaching the affected area."
Then, once she turned to her friend who could assess the problem, the situation flipped from mystery discomfort to something far more alarming when a blood flow test showed she had an issue.
Barbara was urged to return to the clinic out of concern for the possibility of necrosis, a condition where tissue death occurs due to inadequate blood flow. Upon her return, the dentist administered an enzyme to break down the hyaluronic acid.
"It wasn't until I was already in the car that I received a message from the clinic advising me to take an anti-allergy medication, but they didn't specify the dosage," she recounted.
"Unfortunately, it was too late, as I was already experiencing an allergic reaction."
Barbara was swiftly transported to the hospital, where she received urgent medical treatment.
That’s when Barbara’s “routine” appointment stopped being a beauty fix and became a hospital fight for her life, all because the blood supply to her mouth was allegedly cut off.
"They administered corticosteroids and other medications directly into my veins. I cried profusely, feeling a blockage in my throat and intense pain in my neck," she recounted.
After a video she posted online went viral, the clinic reached out to Barbara, promising to cover the expenses. However, Barbara expressed her dissatisfaction, stating, "For me, that is insignificant compared to what I've endured. I nearly lost my life."
Barbara is now contemplating legal action against the dentist.
Barbara’s lips weren’t the only thing that got damaged, the trust in a normal day at a franchise clinic did too.
