Airline Throws Out Iconic Skirt and Heels Flight Attendant Uniform for More Practical and Comfortable Look
Ukrainian airline SkyUp is revolutionizing the flight attendant image.
SkyUp just gave one of the most recognizable airline looks a major reset, and it is already getting attention. The Ukrainian budget carrier has moved away from the classic skirt, heels, and polished uniform formula in favor of something far easier to wear on the job.
For flight attendants, that shift is about more than style. The new look is meant to be practical, comfortable, and better suited to the pace of working on an airplane, where long hours and constant movement are part of the routine.
And once you see what the airline replaced it with, the change makes a lot of sense.
Ukrainian Budget Airline SkyUp is Ready to Revolutionize the Flight Attendant Uniform
MIKI YoshihitoBeing a flight attendant is not easy. They have to deal with emergencies and ensure that passengers are following all safety and flight protocols.
This means that they're on their feet for long hours on an unstable surface. For women to do that in tight skirts and skinny heels is simply unreasonable.
Saying Goodbye to the Old Uniform

SkyUp is a young budget airline, but they are a significant company unafraid to shed the classical flight attendant image and provide their employees with more comfort in the workplace.
In their July press release, they revealed what the uniforms symbolize to them. “The uniform embodies the idea of movement. The form is created for active, bold, and bright individuals; those who do not like excessive officialdom but appreciate style; who react quickly, act in a balanced manner, accept challenges, and find solutions to any situation. These are clothes for those who are open to new experiences, those who love travel and life.”
That message makes the redesign feel like more than a simple wardrobe change.

Introducing the New Uniform
The new uniforms had their debut in October 2021. Passengers were greeted by flight attendants wearing a look created by Ukrainian fashion designers from the GUDU brand, which consists of a bright orange, loose-fitting suit reflecting the airline's color, paired with Nike Air Max 720 white sneakers.
In addition to the uniform, the airline also eliminated the tight buns that can cause scalp pain, allowing for a variety of other hairstyles.
It is a much more practical look from head to toe.

The Uniform Represents Movement and Was Created for Bold and Active People, Ditching the Sexualized Image of Flight Attendants

Head of SkyUp Airlines Marketing Department Marianna Grigorash said, "Times have changed, women have changed, so in contrast to the conservative classics of heels, red lipstick, and a bun, a new, more modern and comfortable image of a ‘champion’ has emerged. Freedom, natural beauty, individuality, no patterns, and sneakers in which everyone ‘would like to fly.’”
It is hard to miss the point of the redesign.
It’s giving the same energy as a traveler’s AITA fight after refusing to cover a friend’s luxury upgrade costs.

There Are Plans to Update the Men's Uniforms Too!

It's no secret that airlines have benefited from having their flight attendants adhere to a certain appearance that appeals to many of their customers. However, that is not what SkyUp desires.
This change is a significant shift that is very impressive, especially in a country and part of the world where there is considerable emphasis on a woman's appearance and how it should be.
People who have seen the new uniforms are applauding the airline for taking care of their female employees. Not everyone agrees that the suits are stylish, however, but that's a matter of taste.
When it comes to the comfort and welfare of flight attendants, everyone loves it.
The reaction has been just as lively as the uniform itself.

We are definitely loving these new uniforms, and we think every airline around the world should seriously consider updating those pencil skirts and heels. If we forced airline executives and managers to work in those outfits, we believe they'd be begging for a change within half a day, so they shouldn't expect women to endure them for longer.
It's the modern age already, and things need to change. Thankfully, someone has already taken the first step.
Now, all we need is for the rest to follow.
Maybe the old uniform era is finally on its way out.
