AITA for refusing to share my family recipe with my husband who wants to sell it behind my back?
AITA for refusing to share my cherished family recipe with my husband who wants to exploit it for profit without my consent?
A 28-year-old woman refused to hand over her family’s signature recipe to her husband after he decided it could be “the next big thing.” And honestly, that’s where the drama turned from kitchen vibes to full-on relationship chaos.
She’s not refusing to cook, she’s refusing to commercialize. Her husband wants to sell the dish behind her back, even going as far as pressuring her to share the recipe without her involvement. When she discovered he’d taken a photo of her recipe book to copy it, she panicked and hid the book to protect their family tradition. Then he blew up, called her controlling, and told his friends she was keeping an “amazing” recipe from the world out of spite.
Now everyone’s acting like she’s the villain, but the only thing she’s trying to protect is the recipe’s legacy.

I (28F) come from a long line of fantastic cooks, and our family has a signature dish that's been passed down for generations. My husband (30M) recently tasted it and immediately decided it could be a hit in the market.
He's been pressuring me to share the recipe so he can start selling it without my involvement. For background, I've always dreamed of opening a small bakery to share our family recipes, but due to financial constraints, it's not possible yet.
Despite knowing this, he keeps pushing me to give him the recipe, claiming that I'm being selfish by keeping it to myself. Quick context: I've never refused to cook it for him; I just don't want it commercialized without my consent.
The other day, in a heat of an argument, he suggested that I was hindering his potential success by not sharing the recipe and accused me of being controlling. This hurt me deeply because I've always supported his goals and dreams.
Recently, I discovered he had taken a photo of my recipe book in an attempt to copy it down without my knowledge. So, I decided to hide the book to protect our family tradition.
When he found out, he got furious, accusing me of stifling his entrepreneurial spirit and talents. He even went as far as telling his friends that I'm holding back this amazing recipe from the world just to be spiteful.
I truly believe this recipe is a precious part of our family and should be treated with respect. So, AITA for standing my ground and refusing to share my beloved family recipe with my husband who wants to profit from it without my consent?

The first red flag was him pushing the recipe for a market sale while she’s still stuck dreaming about her own bakery someday.
That’s when things got complicated, because he didn’t just ask, he allegedly tried to copy it by photographing the recipe book.
When she hid the book, he flipped the script and accused her of stifling his “entrepreneurial spirit” instead of admitting what he did.
And after he told his friends she was “holding back” the recipe, the whole argument stopped being about food and started being about trust.
