Am I Wrong for Covering My Friends Holiday Costs, Including My Female Friends?

AITA for paying for friends on holiday, including my HG, causing my ex to accuse me of cheating? Opinions differ, but the ex's reaction is a key focus.

Some people can’t handle a simple “I got you” without turning it into a courtroom drama, and this Reddit post is basically that in real time. The OP says they’ve been covering their university friend crew for holidays, mainly because the OP already plans to go, so the group just tags along.

Here’s the twist: the OP’s ex girlfriend was invited to the same holiday, but she didn’t want to go because she didn’t like the AirBnB. Then she found out the OP pays for everyone, including a female friend, and it set her off. Suddenly it wasn’t just “you’re using me,” it was also “you want to cheat on me with that friend,” because paying for her is apparently cheating too.

Now the OP is stuck wondering if they’re the villain for covering group holiday costs, even when the relationship and the guest list got messy.

Original Post

The situation is/was the following: Because my friends are all university Students and I have already made some money, I tend to pay for them to join me on Holidays e.g. pay for the Hotel/AirBnB as I need it anyway and let friends join for free.

No 5 Star Hotels, mostly cheap AirBnBs and Ryanair Flights 😂 RN we have a group holiday planned and I payed the Flights and Airbnb for 5 ppl including a Female friend of mine. My now ex GF was invited to this Holiday, but didn't want to go, because she didn't like the AirBnB.

But when she found out that I often pay for everyone including this friend she got furious. First she talked about my friends using me and then swung to accusing me of wanting to cheat on her with that friend and that just paying for her is already cheating.

So am I the A*****e for paying for my HG ? (I could have understood it more if it was just the two of us going, but it was a group holiday and we would have mostly had separate beds, maybe 2 Ppl will have to share)

And it gets messy fast, just like the partner who refused to get rid of a fur couch despite allergies.

The whole thing starts when the OP pays for flights and the AirBnB for five people, including that female friend, like it’s no big deal.

It gets ugly when the ex hears about the regular group coverage, even though she already opted out of the trip over the AirBnB.

Then the ex switches from accusing their friends of “using” the OP to accusing the OP of cheating, all because of how the bills get handled.

And with a group holiday planned, separate beds and all, the OP is left trying to figure out whether paying for friends is actually the problem.

Paying for the group might sound harmless, but in this story it instantly turns into “cheating” accusations.
