Artist Reimagines Disney With Modern Tech (12 Pics)

Step into a world where Disney meets the digital age as an artist envisions beloved characters with modern technologies.

A 28-year-old artist refused to let Disney, Pixar, and classic cult TV stay stuck in the past. Instead, she took beloved cartoon characters and dropped them into modern meme energy, then hit them with Photoshop until the results felt like a wink to everyone who grew up on the originals.

It started while she was watching “Dirty Dancing,” realizing half the crowd today might have missed iconic scenes from movies and shows that shaped her taste. The complicated part is that she was already known for surreal, melancholic art under her Omerika account, but during the endless quarantines she wanted something lighter, funnier, and more chaotic.

That’s how “FairyFAILS” became her way of turning quarantine boredom into a full-on remix of classic pop culture.

The rest of the FairyFAILS (that's what I call my creations) came to life while I was watching 'Dirty Dancing' and realized how many iconic movies today's generation may have missed out on. I thought that blending famous scenes from these movies and shows with beloved cartoon characters in a humorous manner could both honor these classics and encourage people to watch them. Plus, it might stir up some nostalgic feelings for others."

She didn’t just pick random characters, she built the whole idea around honoring cult movies and TV shows that hit a nerve while she was scrolling and rewatching.

When asked about the inspiration behind her edits, the artist shared, "When I began, I already had an active account called Omerika, where I'm recognized for my surreal visual art. However, while my Omerika pieces often carry a melancholic tone, with the onset of the pandemic and the seemingly endless quarantines, I felt compelled to explore the lighter and more humorous side of my creativity. So, I made the decision to shift my focus to my OneFairyFAIL account during this time."

Then the pandemic switch flipped, and her OneFairyFAIL account took over, trading the melancholic vibe of Omerika for memes, laughs, and bangs on Ariel.

This is similar to the Reddit AITA where someone refused to fund a friend’s failing business after misuse.

"My entire concept behind FairyFAILS revolves around paying homage to classic cult movies and TV shows that hold a special place in my heart. As a huge fan of memes and cartoons, I found inspiration in merging beloved cartoons with iconic classic movies. Initially, my FairyFAILS focused solely on this concept.

However, one day, after witnessing numerous videos of individuals attempting the 'DIY bangs' trend during quarantine, I had a lightbulb moment. I imagined Princess Ariel giving herself bangs, and from there, my FairyFAILS expanded to include various other concepts and scenarios, not just reenactments of famous movie and TV show scenes."

The “DIY bangs” trend was the exact moment everything expanded, because once Ariel could give herself bangs, the rest of the scenarios basically begged to exist.

She also revealed the source of her inspiration: "I always draw ideas from either personal experiences or things I come across while scrolling through social media that resonate with me."

And even the way she learned, starting from her graphic design background and using Photoshop, shows up in how clean and punchy each reimagined Disney moment looks.

Onefairyfail shared her journey of learning to create these edits and using Photoshop: "I originally trained as a graphic designer, so I gained the basics of Photoshop during my graphic design studies. I then expanded my knowledge independently."

Regarding her favorite aspect of creating this type of art and the challenges she faces, she said: "My favorite part is bringing my ideas to life visually, especially when they align perfectly with what I envisioned."

The most challenging aspect is when an idea loses its appeal or when the editing process becomes messy, deviating from my original vision. At times, I find myself either changing the concept entirely or starting the edit from scratch. I can be quite the perfectionist." She mentioned that her edits can become intricate and may take several days to complete.
