Man Cries Out As He's Tired Of Bailing His Wife While Pushing Her To File For Child Support
"From the start I was clear: I wanted a 50/50 partnership"
We've all heard about child support. It is a court order requiring one parent to give money to the other in order to support the children financially.
The amount is determined by a percentage that takes into account the number of children to be supported, the gross monthly income of each parent, the cost of health and dental insurance, the cost of childcare, the percentage of parenting time, and overnights between the parents, amongst other things. Additionally, the parents will split the cost of unpaid medical bills and, in certain situations, extracurricular activities.
Child support is paid until the child is eighteen and graduates from high school, or longer in some circumstances. Typically, only normal full-time salaries or earnings are considered, and the income of a parent's new spouse isn't included.
The OP of today's story has a stepdaughter, but his wife has refused to file for child support. The OP has two kids with his wife and his stepdaughter, making it three.
The OP loves his stepdaughter and treats her as his, but her biological dad does almost nothing. OP's wife refuses to file for child support because she’s afraid of 50/50 custody and doesn’t want her daughter influenced by her dad.
The OP still thinks he should be forced to contribute, and you will find out his reasons as you read the full story below.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:
I feel accomplished for taking her out of that space but feel like the AH for needing her to come from the space she’s going into now. I lamented regularly about these topics with her so for me to correct my thinking if it’s wrong or adjust my ideas/ approach could save a looot of cortisol from being produced. We've gathered some of the most upvoted comments from other Redditors for you to read through below

In reality, the court views child support that one parent pays to the other as beneficial to the child rather than the parent. It is not a benefit to withhold child support when parenting time is rejected, nor is it a magic bullet for securing parenting time.
For the other parent, it is not a quick way to become wealthy. The OP just wants his wife to make a good decision which in turn would help and benefit the family.
The OP was declared not the AH and that's a wrap.
