Boyfriend With All Of The Audacity Blames His Girlfriend For Not Waking Him Up On Time, Causing Him To Be Late For His New Job
They have a contract stating that the girlfriend cannot wake him up, even if it's the Pope he's meeting.
Some people learn the hard way that living together reveals every annoying habit, and this boyfriend’s sleep schedule turned into a full-blown problem. OP, a 28-year-old woman, has lived with her 30-year-old partner for three years, and from the start, she learned that his sleep is not something to mess with.
After he overslept once and snapped at her for waking him, the two made a contract, thanks to OP’s lawyer parents, saying she would not wake him unless it was an emergency and he could not blame her if he slept through something important. Years later, he stayed up gaming before his first day at a new job, missed his alarm, and then came home furious that OP had not rescued him from his own morning.
Now the signed contract is back in the spotlight, and his reaction is making the whole situation even messier. Read on.
OP stayed silent until he stopped yelling and calmly showed him the signed contract.
OP basically told him that she did not wake him up, and she never will. She reasoned that he's an adult and should have set an alarm like other people.
Besides, his being late is none of OP's business, and she did not factor into this equation at all. His backpedaling on his previous rule that he shouldn't be woken up is especially notable, given that he's no longer working for his friend who was lax with time.

That's what happens when you date a lawyer's offspring.

Based on the story alone, the SO is not someone you bring home to your parents.

He sounds like every girl's dream guy.

This is similar to the roommate conflict over a boyfriend overstaying and wrecking sleep.
He could have just asked her to wake him up.

We're betting on the latter.

There is an abundance of grown men on Reddit who are like this guy.
butt_scratcher_007
Pretty sure 8-year-olds set their own alarms and wake up by themselves.

If he really wanted to be on time, he wouldn't have stayed up late gaming.

Besides, they have a contract.
getjicky
Others are pointing out that the contract is not enforceable anyway, so everyone in this story sucks.

Was OP just being petty?
joe1337s
Not at all, because she has a valid reason for not wanting to wake him up.

In case anyone has a short-term memory problem, here's why OP didn't bother waking her SO.

OP did not make the tardy boyfriend stay up in the wee hours of the morning playing video games right before starting an important new job, did she? Unless we read the story wrong, OP clearly is not an a**hole.
She only did what they previously agreed upon years ago. If she had woken him up, there's a possibility that he would have been mad at her again, but there's also a possibility that he would have thanked her.
However, we will never know how he would have reacted if OP chose to wake him; but then again, we are not here to discuss hypotheticals. To OP's SO, if you want your girlfriend to wake you up the next day, just say that instead of expecting her to be a mind reader.
