I (29F) have been dating my boyfriend (31M) for over 2 years now. We live together and share most expenses evenly, which has worked well for us.

We both love animals, but we already have a pet cat that we adore. Last week, I came home from work to find my boyfriend with a new puppy.

He was beaming with excitement, telling me he got the puppy from a friend who couldn't keep it anymore. I was shocked because we never discussed getting another pet, especially a puppy!

I asked why he didn't talk to me before bringing the puppy home, and he said he couldn't resist helping out the friend and that he knew I loved animals so it shouldn't be a problem. But I felt blindsided and overwhelmed by the sudden responsibility.
