Then it happens again. This time, OP’s dog gets so scared she nearly goes into “defend myself” mode before OP can get between them and pick her up. Ok, so right now, I live in an apartment. In a month, I’m moving into a house.

I’ve lived in this apartment for a year now and never had any issues until now. I’ve got a Doberman; she’s 9 months old.

She’s still working on her training, but she is at the point of easy recall, responds to commands easily, and is getting better on the leash outside. She’s not aggressive at all and is usually shy.

Note: In my state, it’s illegal to have a dog off-leash and not under control when not in a properly fenced area. Earlier this week, I stopped at home to take her out to potty and feed her on my lunch break.

I turned the corner into the field we live next to, and this medium-sized dog ran towards my dog, barking and growling, off-leash. My dog backed up in fear and barked at her until I could get in between them and pick her up.

A girl around the age of 14 came up frantically, saying she was sorry, got the dog, and went back to her place. I just brushed it off.

Well, today, I’m heading out again to take her out, and the exact same situation happens again. The dog runs up, barking and growling, and gets way too close to my dog, growling in her face.

This time, my dog got scared and almost reached the point of defending herself before I got her off the ground. So when the girl came over apologizing again, I told her that if she couldn’t control her dog, then she should not be letting her off the leash like that, especially because it’s illegal.

Well, the dogs were barking, and I had a raised voice, and the kid started crying and ran off. Shocker, the mother came outside a bit later and screamed at me, saying she was going to call the cops on me if I disrespected her kid like that again.

She told me that as a woman, I should respect children and to never talk to her child again. When I attempted to inform her that it’s illegal in this state to do what her kid did, she told me my dog should be illegal because she’s a killer.

So I got fed up and called animal welfare, gave them her address and the situation. They will be paying a visit to her door, giving her a warning to control her animal or she could receive fines.
