Caught a coworker stealing my lunch - AITA for refusing to share? 🍱
AITA for confronting a coworker suspected of stealing my homemade lunch? Read how I handled the situation and the aftermath.
A 28-year-old woman refused to let a coworker keep “borrowing” her homemade lunches, and now she’s stuck wondering if she handled it too aggressively. The whole thing started with simple kitchen theft vibes, the kind that turns a shared office fridge into a mystery novel.
She works in a small office where everyone brings food, and lately her lunches have been disappearing. So she marked her containers discreetly, then caught a 30-year-old man at lunchtime with a similar marked container, eating what looked like her exact meal. He denied it, even though she knew she wasn’t imagining things, and the confrontation got real fast.
Now she’s asking if she was wrong for putting a stop to it, or if he’s just upset she finally noticed.

So, I'm (28F) working at a small office with a shared kitchen where everyone brings their food. Recently, I've noticed that items from my homemade lunches have been disappearing, which has been frustrating me a lot.
Yesterday, I decided to mark my lunch containers discreetly to see if that would help. Today, during lunchtime, I spotted one of my coworkers (30M) with a similar marked container, eating what looked like my exact lunch.
Knowing my suspicions were likely correct, I confronted him about it. He denied taking my food and claimed it was his own.
However, I could see through his lies and called him out on it. I firmly told him that I knew he had been taking my lunches and that it needed to stop immediately.
He seemed taken aback and tried to brush it off, but I stood my ground. After the confrontation, I returned to my desk feeling conflicted.
On one hand, I felt relieved for addressing the issue, but on the other, I felt guilty for potentially causing a scene. So, AITA?

It gets even messier like the coworker caught red-handed, and the OP had to decide whether to expose them.

She didn’t just suspect him, she marked her containers and waited to see if the “missing” lunches would magically reappear on his plate.
The moment she saw the 30M with the same marked container, the office kitchen stopped being neutral ground and turned into a crime scene.
After he denied taking anything and tried to brush it off, OP called him out so directly that you could practically hear the shared fridge go silent.
Even though she felt relieved confronting him, she still went back to her desk replaying the scene, like she might have made things worse for everyone.

He might not be stealing lunches anymore, but now he’s definitely wondering if he’s the problem.
Before you decide, check out what the OP did when the freeloader coworker kept taking lunches.
