Can they find a way to bridge this divide?

Original Post

I'm (28M) currently living abroad and have a close relationship with my sister (30F). She's never been a fan of flying and has a fear of it, but she recently expressed interest in visiting me.

I was excited about the idea and offered to cover her flight expenses. However, she dropped a bombshell - her fear of flying extends to not being able to do it with my dog, who I consider my family.

I tried explaining that my dog is small, well-behaved, and traveling with pets is common, but she remained firm that she can't even consider getting on a plane knowing my dog would be there. For background, my sister and I have always supported each other, and I value our relationship.

However, I couldn't help but feel hurt that she wouldn't even try to overcome her fear for the sake of spending time with me, especially since I offered to help in any way possible. I don't want to leave my dog behind or force her to travel alone, as she's a great emotional support for me, particularly in a new country.

So, I told my sister that if she can't fly with my dog, then she can't visit me. My sister was upset and said I was being unreasonable, emphasizing how difficult flying is for her.

She even suggested that I find temporary care for my dog during her visit, but I refused. Now, we're at an impasse, and she's questioning our relationship over this issue.
