Star Wars: A New Hope Heads to Marvel’s Earth-616 in New Hope Assembles Crossover

Marvel and Lucasfilm’s five-issue Hope Assembles sends A New Hope to Earth-616, pairing Star Wars icons with Marvel heroes in January 2027.

Star Wars and Marvel are finally colliding inside one official story. The new five-issue comic Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles reworks A New Hope by dropping its events into Marvel’s Earth-616, with the first issue set for January 2027.

A New Hope gets a Marvel lineup

Hope Assembles is set to place Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca inside Marvel’s main comic continuity for what is being described as the first official in-universe crossover between the two franchises.

The setup involves a reality-shattering spell that causes the events of Star Wars: A New Hope to unfold on Earth-616. That puts Marvel characters in the middle of the original 1977 Star Wars story instead of simply visiting the galaxy far, far away.

The hero roster stretches across some of Marvel’s biggest names. Characters identified for the series include the Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine, Deadpool, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Professor X, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The villain side is getting its own mashup. Darth Vader is said to be joined by Marvel antagonists including Doctor Doom, Thanos, and Ultron. Another description of the crossover says the Empire is allied with Doctor Doom and other Marvel villains as well.

What Disney fans need to know now

Kevin Smith is writing the series, with David Marquez on art. The first issue arrives in January 2027, during the 50th anniversary year of A New Hope and the Star Wars franchise.

For fans wondering whether this is about to spill into Disney’s screen projects, there is no announced Marvel and Star Wars movie or television crossover connected to Hope Assembles. No animated series, video game, or live-action adaptation has been announced either.

So the immediate change is on the page. A New Hope is being expanded into a Marvel crossover event, and readers of both franchises will see that version of the story begin with a five-issue comic run in January.
