This Woman Crochets Halloween Costumes For Her Kids, And They're Epic
"I have been blessed to have my work so well received, not only by our crochet community but also by those who do not crochet."
Halloween costumes usually come from a store shelf, but one mom turned the holiday into a full-on crochet showcase. Stephanie Pokorny has been making incredibly detailed handmade costumes for her kids, and the results are the kind of thing people stop scrolling for.
What started as a childhood hobby became a viral hit once she began sharing photos of her sons in her creations. From movie monsters to pop culture favorites, her work stands out for the tiny details and the sheer amount of time it takes to finish each piece.
And once you see how far she takes the designs, it is easy to understand why her costumes keep getting attention.
Xenomorph
Stephanie Pokorny Stephanie grew up in the '80s, so many of her designs are inspired by movies from that era.
Predator, Alien, IT, and E.T. are just a few films that have inspired Stephanie's costumes. "My husband and I are '80s kids, so we often watch movies that are classics from that time," she says.

All of Stephanie's designs are done freehand.
That's right, no pattern! A select few then become patterns that she shares on her website or Ravelry, but the rest remain one of a kind.
Each costume takes a considerable amount of time. "They tend to take between 25 to 40 hours each, depending on complexity," Stephanie says.

Stephanie says she would love to take up other crafts as well, but crocheting is her passion.
"In all honesty, I would do every craft every day forever and ever, but I have truly honed in on crochet as my medium. So, while I embarrassingly have supplies for beading, needlepoint, knitting, painting, and jewelry making, those just get to be lovely adornments in my craft room, lol!"
This also hits close to home for the “AITA” drama in the homemade baby gift fight, where she asked for financial help instead.

Stephanie hopes to use her talent and success to inspire others to take up crochet as a hobby.
"I have been blessed to have my work so well received, not only by our crochet community but also by those who do not crochet," Stephanie says. "This is such a good feeling because one of my main goals is to further our art form and show people how amazing it can be!"
Stephanie says it's very rewarding to inspire others. "When someone tells you they want to learn to crochet because of something you made, that is a great feeling both personally and for our crochet community," she says.
Well done, Stephanie! Keep up the fantastic work, mama!
