Rapper DDG Files Legal Motion To Keep Halle Bailey and Son Halo From Leaving the U.S.

The actress was temporarily given physical and legal custody of Halo in May.

When parents disagree over custody and travel rights, it often ends up in court, especially when young children are involved. That’s the situation now between DDG, the YouTube streamer and rapper, and Halle Bailey, the actress known for playing the Little Mermaid.

Their ongoing custody dispute has taken a new turn with serious allegations and legal moves, including a request to stop international travel with their son. On June 4, 2025, DDG officially asked the court to prevent Halle Bailey from taking their 17-month-old son, Halo, out of the country.

According to court documents, he filed an emergency motion seeking a hearing and a travel restriction that would block Bailey from going abroad with Halo, specifically mentioning a planned vacation to Italy. However, the motion goes beyond just travel. DDG is also asking the court to issue a domestic violence restraining order against Bailey.

He claims she represents an “imminent emotional and psychological risk” to their son due to “repeated, documented threats of self-harm.” According to DDG, if Halo leaves the country, he would be out of the court’s reach and any emergency interventions that might protect him.

In the documents, DDG paints a picture of concern over Bailey’s mental state. He states she has made “repeated threats of suicide and self-harm” and that on several occasions, Halo’s safety was compromised because Bailey was emotionally distressed.

DDG says Bailey took his gun during a fight and was found outside with it, posing a danger to Halo.

One specific incident DDG highlights involved a heated argument during which Bailey took his gun and left their home with it.

He says he found her outside, holding the weapon, and describes her as “emotionally unwell, incoherent, and potentially suicidal.” This, he argues, put Halo in immediate danger.

In May, Bailey got temporary custody and a restraining order against DDG, expiring June 4.

The custody battle itself has already seen some major developments. In May, Bailey was granted temporary physical and legal custody of Halo after accusing DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., of physical and emotional abuse.

At the same time, the court issued a temporary restraining order requiring DDG to stay at least 100 yards away from Bailey and their son.

That restraining order was set to expire on June 4, coinciding with the scheduled court hearing.

Bailey sought to block DDG’s visits but allowed weekly supervised ones, limited to Los Angeles County.

Bailey also asked the judge to block DDG from any visitation rights with Halo. However, she agreed to allow supervised visits once a week, lasting six hours each time, with a professional company overseeing the meetings, but only while Halo remains in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Bailey requested the court to prevent DDG from taking Halo outside Los Angeles County.

Navigating Custody Challenges

When custody disputes arise, it's crucial for parents to focus on the child's best interests, as emphasized by Dr. Madeline Levine, a renowned child psychologist. She highlights that unresolved conflicts can create emotional stress for children, potentially impacting their development. Open communication can mitigate some of these challenges.

Using a co-parenting counselor can help facilitate discussions, ensuring both parents can voice their concerns while prioritizing their child's well-being. Consistent routines and stable environments are vital during such transitions, providing children with a sense of security amidst uncertainty.

According to Dr. Becky Kennedy, a child psychologist and parenting expert, the emotional fallout from custody disputes can be immense. She emphasizes that children often feel torn between parents, leading to anxiety and behavioral issues. Parents should strive to create a supportive environment where the child feels safe expressing their feelings.

Implementing regular check-ins with the child can help gauge their emotional state. Moreover, maintaining consistency in discipline and routines between households can provide a sense of stability, which is essential during tumultuous times.

The two began their relationship in 2022 but ultimately split in 2024, and since then, their custody dispute has become more public and contentious. This case shows just how difficult co-parenting can become when trust fades and serious accusations come into play.

Both parents are making claims that directly affect their son’s safety and well-being, putting the family in a tense and uncertain position. The court’s rulings will be crucial, shaping not only the immediate situation but also the long-term future for everyone involved.

Solutions & Coping Strategies

The ongoing custody dispute between DDG and Halle Bailey underscores the emotional complexities of parenting arrangements. As Dr. Terri Orbuch, a relationship researcher, points out, unresolved conflicts can lead to long-lasting impacts on family dynamics. Prioritizing communication and understanding can significantly ease the tensions that arise in such situations.

Proactive measures, such as counseling and structured co-parenting plans, can provide a framework for healthier interactions. Ultimately, fostering an environment centered on the child's emotional needs is imperative for their development and well-being.
