Debating Child Support: Am I Wrong for Questioning Ex-Wifes Spending?
AITA for considering withholding child support due to ex-wife's behavior? Ex-wife's lavish lifestyle raises concerns about misuse of funds.
Some people treat child support like it’s a blank check, and this Reddit post is where that idea gets ugly fast. OP claims he’s been paying on time, but the minute his ex-wife starts posting vacation pics like she’s auditioning for a luxury travel ad, the whole situation starts to feel off.
He and his ex-wife share custody of their two kids, and they already have a child support agreement. The complication? She keeps asking for more money, says she needs it for the kids, but OP believes he found proof that part of the child support is getting used for personal expenses that have nothing to do with the children. When he confronts her, she brushes it off and insists she’s entitled to the money anyway.
Now OP is stuck wondering if he’s the problem for questioning whether the funds are actually going where they’re supposed to.

So I'm (35M), and my ex-wife (33F) and I share custody of our two kids. We have a child support agreement in place, and I've always made timely payments.
However, recently my ex-wife started dating an affluent man and seems to be living a lavish lifestyle, even posting about expensive vacations on social media. Despite this, she's been constantly asking me for more money, claiming she needs it for the kids.
I discovered she's been using some of the child support funds for personal expenses unrelated to the children. I confronted her about it, but she dismissed my concerns and insisted that she's entitled to the money.
I was taken aback by her attitude and lack of accountability. I feel like I'm being taken advantage of, and I don't want to continue supporting her lifestyle instead of focusing on our children's needs. So, AITA for wanting to withhold child support based on my ex-wife's behavior and misuse of funds?

OP says he’s paid everything on time, but the lavish social media posts from his ex-wife are the first red flag that makes him start counting differently.
This also echoes a dog owner choosing holistic care against the vet’s advice and their partner’s wishes.
Once she starts dating an affluent man and keeps pushing for more money, OP feels like his payments are funding a lifestyle, not their kids’ needs.
When OP confronts her about misusing child support for personal expenses, she shuts him down instead of addressing the specific issue.
So now, with custody already in the mix and her attitude unchanged, OP is debating whether withholding child support makes him an AH or a victim of being taken advantage of.

He’s not mad about paying for the kids, he’s mad that the money might be paying for someone else’s vacation.
