So I'm (28M) part of a friend group planning a beach vacation. We all agreed to split costs equally before booking accommodations.
However, after booking, one friend (25F) decided to bring her new partner (30M) along without consulting the group. This led to a change in room arrangements, causing some to have less comfortable sleeping arrangements than initially planned.
When it came to dividing the costs, I suggested that the friend who added the extra person should cover the additional expenses. I didn't think it was fair for everyone to pay the same when not everyone was benefitting equally.
This led to a heated argument with accusations of me being selfish and unreasonable. I stood my ground, feeling that fairness should prevail, but now the group dynamic is tense.
