Debating Whether to Bring Friends Pet Rabbit on Cross-Country Road Trip

"Should I risk my friend missing a family event by refusing to let her pet rabbit join our cross-country road trip? Reddit weighs in on this dilemma."

A 28-year-old woman thought a cross-country road trip with her best friend was locked in, playlist and snacks included. Then Emily dropped a bomb, literally, when she insisted her pet rabbit, Fluffy, has to come along.

It sounds sweet on paper, but the plan is already tight, long driving hours, limited stops, and a final-day dance recital Emily’s little sister is counting on. OP is worried Fluffy will be stressed in the car, and that bringing the rabbit will turn their schedule into a mess, while Emily insists Fluffy is “family” and should be part of the adventure.

Now OP is stuck between being the bad guy and protecting the trip everyone is actually trying to make happen.

So, I'm (28F) planning a much-anticipated road trip across the country with my close friend, Emily (30F). We've been looking forward to this adventure for months, and everything was set until Emily dropped a b**b on me.

She wants to bring her pet rabbit, Fluffy, along for the ride. Now, Fluffy is a sweet rabbit, but I have concerns about this arrangement.

Firstly, driving long hours with a rabbit in the car can be stressful for the animal. Secondly, we'll be making limited stops due to a tight schedule, and I worry about Fluffy's wellbeing.

Most importantly, Emily's little sister has a big dance recital at the end of our trip that she's looking forward to. If we take Fluffy, we might risk missing the event, and I know how much it means to Emily's sister.

I expressed my reservations to Emily, but she insists that Fluffy is part of her family and should experience the trip with us. I understand her bond with Fluffy, but I'm torn between accommodating her wishes and ensuring we stick to our plans without causing any disruptions.

WIBTA if I stand firm on not allowing Fluffy to join us on the road trip?

Emily’s “Fluffy” plan feels similar to the argument over whether to allow a friend’s noisy cockatoo on a cross-country road trip, right?

OP starts by explaining why Fluffy in the car sounds like a bad idea, and Emily responds like this rabbit is non-negotiable.

The rabbit debate gets sharper when OP points out they’ll have limited stops and long stretches of driving before the recital.

Emily keeps insisting Fluffy is part of her family, even though OP’s biggest fear is that the dance recital could be delayed or missed.

The whole situation boils down to whether OP should stand firm on not allowing Fluffy, or give in and risk blowing up the end-of-trip event for Emily’s sister.

OP might be the villain in Emily’s story, but Fluffy should not be the reason her friend’s sister misses her big dance moment.
