Debating Whether to Splurge on a Pet Psychic for Our Cat

"WIBTA for refusing to pay for my partner's pet psychic to communicate with our cat? Reddit discusses the validity of feline psychic communication services."

A 29-year-old woman is stuck in a very specific kind of relationship argument, the kind where the real “person” in the room might be a cat. Her partner, 31, is convinced their 3-year-old cat, Whiskers, is acting weird on purpose, like he’s trying to send coded messages into their lives.

Now the debate has a price tag. The partner wants to hire a pet psychic to “talk” to Whiskers, even though the OP thinks this is basically throwing money at vibes. They’ve never had trouble understanding the cat before, so she’s wondering if this is just a costly detour while he swears it’ll improve Whiskers’ well-being.

And the question is, who gets to call the shots when the bill is coming due and the cat is the main character?

Original Post

So I'm (29F) and my partner (31M) and I have a 3-year-old cat named Whiskers. Recently, my partner has been convinced that Whiskers is behaving oddly and believes that he might be trying to communicate something to us.

As a result, my partner suggested hiring a pet psychic to 'talk' to Whiskers. This service comes at a hefty price and, honestly, I'm skeptical about its effectiveness.

We've never had any issues understanding our cat before, and I feel like this might just be a waste of money. Despite my doubts, my partner is insistent on going through with it and believes that it could potentially help improve our cat's well-being.

I'm torn between supporting my partner's belief in this pet psychic and standing my ground on not spending money on what I see as a questionable service. So, would I be the a*****e if I refused to pay for my partner's pet psychic to communicate with our cat?

I honestly don't know if I'm wrong here.

OP is trying to be reasonable, while her partner is doubling down on the idea that Whiskers is “communicating” and deserves a psychic session.

The tension spikes when the OP points out they’ve understood Whiskers just fine without paying anyone to translate cat energy.

Suddenly it’s not just about Whiskers’ behavior, it’s about whether OP should split the cost of something she thinks is a questionable waste.

With the partner insisting on going through with it, OP has to decide if refusing to pay makes her the bad guy in the Whiskers storybook.</p>

If Whiskers can’t exactly foot the bill, OP is wondering why she has to.
