Did I Cross the Line by Wearing My Friends Dress to the Same Party?
"AITA for wearing a friend's borrowed dress to a party where she'd be? Tensions rise as miscommunication leads to unexpected dress drama."
It started with a simple favor, and it somehow turned into full-on dress drama at the exact same party. A 28-year-old woman needed something to wear, so her friend Alex (27) offered her one of her dresses, no strings attached… at least that’s how it sounded.
Here’s the messy part: Alex was also going to the party, but they weren’t getting ready together. OP put the dress on, loved how it looked, and walked into the night like it was totally normal. Then Alex saw her in the dress and immediately flipped, saying OP knew Alex wanted to wear it.
Now OP is stuck wondering if she accidentally crossed a line, and the party ended with Alex leaving early.
Original Post
I (28F) had a party to attend and needed a dress, so my friend 'Alex' (27F) offered to lend me one. Alex was coming to the party too, but we were getting ready separately.
I put on the dress and loved it. At the party, Alex saw me and got upset, claiming I knew she wanted to wear the dress.
I had no idea. Things got tense, and she left early.
Am I the a*****e for unintentionally causing this dress drama?

This is similar to the friend refusing to return a borrowed outfit after the two of them clashed.

OP grabbed Alex’s dress for the party, and the whole situation was supposed to be zero-drama since they were getting ready separately.
The tension didn’t hit until Alex spotted OP in the dress and decided OP must have known she planned to wear it.
Suddenly the vibe went from “cute outfit” to “accusations,” and Alex stormed out early instead of talking it through.
With Alex gone and OP confused, the real question becomes whether borrowing the dress was the mistake or if Alex’s expectations were the issue.

OP didn’t mean to steal Alex’s moment, but that dress definitely turned the party into a mess.
Alex’s dress blowup feels familiar, like a friend who criticized fashion choices and demanded borrowed clothes back.
