Bad Delivery: A Disgusting Surprise In My Amazon Package

A shocking discovery left me feeling sick for days.

Paul Payne was just trying to enjoy a two-day fishing trip, the kind where you come back smelling like river water and good decisions. Instead, he returned to his hallway to find an Amazon delivery that should have been nothing more than a pair of £69 designer trainers.

When he finally opened the box, the “new shoes” moment turned into a full-on nightmare. Not one, but two dead mice were stuffed inside, wedged between the shoes alongside urine, droppings, and torn bits of paper. Paul, a 44-year-old dad and photo booth business owner, says he had never had mice in his home before, and now he’s stuck wondering how long they were in there and whether they were alive when the package arrived.

Even with Amazon issuing a refund, the question lingers, what if it had happened to someone who would not have been able to open that box fast enough? Amazon package on hallway floor, Paul Payne preparing to open designer sneakers

Paul Payne, a 44-year-old father, was in for a shocking discovery when he received his long-awaited pair of designer trainers from Amazon. After leaving the package containing his £69 Boss sneakers in the hallway while on a two-day fishing trip, he returned to find a disturbing surprise.

Upon opening the box, Paul was horrified to find not one, but two dead mice nestled among his new shoes. Recounting the moment of revelation, Paul described how the unmistakable sight of what appeared to be droppings became immediately apparent as he began unpacking his Amazon delivery.

Paul reached into the box to pull out the Boss sneakers and got hit with the stench immediately, right before he spotted the first mouse by the bottom of the packaging.

"I reached in to pull out one of the shoes and was met with the sight of a mouse nestled at the bottom of the box amidst a mess of urine, droppings, and torn bits of paper. The stench hit me like a wave—utterly disgusting, like a grimy alleyway.

That’s when he lifted the other shoe and another dead mouse dropped out, turning a simple “delivery day” into something that made his stomach drop.

It also echoes the friends feud when one guy refused to stay because he feared the others tarantula.

"As I lifted the other shoe, another mouse fell out, lifeless."

The father of two, who claims he has never encountered mice in his home before, suspects the rodents were still alive when the package arrived, given their softness. He speculates they sought refuge in the box for warmth or because the packaging provided suitable nesting material.

Paul Payne concerned about mice in package, thinking about elderly or children safety

Paul’s biggest fear is what would happen if an elderly person or a family with young children had opened the box and found those mice first.

Paul, a photo booth business owner, voiced his apprehension despite Amazon's refund following his complaint:

"What if this had occurred to an elderly person or a family with young children?

"What if I had opened the package sooner and the mice were alive, scurrying out?"

After Amazon refunded him, Paul was still left replaying the same nightmare, wondering if the rodents were alive when the package was left in his hallway.

This additional compensation appears to acknowledge the inconvenience and distress caused by the unsettling incident.

It reflects Amazon's commitment to customer satisfaction and its acknowledgment of the need to address such situations with appropriate measures beyond mere reimbursement.

Now Paul is stuck wondering if he just got unlucky, or if the real problem is Amazon deliveries left alone too long.
