Magic Kingdom just swapped two resort boat docks, and Disney World regulars may be the ones most confused

Disney has switched two Magic Kingdom resort launch docks, changing where guests board for Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Grand Floridian and Polynesian.

A quiet transportation update at Magic Kingdom just changed where four Disney World resort boat routes load and unload. The routes themselves are staying the same, but the dock locations have been flipped, which could catch returning guests off guard more than first-time visitors.

What changed at Magic Kingdom

Disney has reassigned two of the resort launch docks at Magic Kingdom.

Boats serving Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground now use boat dock 2. That had been the loading point for the shared launch serving Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

The Grand Floridian and Polynesian boats have moved to the dock directly across from the Magic Kingdom entrance, which had previously been used by the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness launch.

The pairings did not change. Grand Floridian and Polynesian still share one dock, and Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness still share the other. Only the physical dock assignment is different.

For guests trying to double check before boarding, dock 2 is marked with a Resort Launches sign and a smaller sign listing Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. The Grand Floridian and Polynesian dock is under the canopy across from the park entrance, near the numbered Entrance 2 and Entrance 3 gates.

Who this affects, and why it matters now

This update matters most for guests staying at those four resorts, especially people used to boarding from memory rather than reading the signs.

A first-time visitor is more likely to stop and check the posted destination. A repeat visitor may head straight to the dock they have always used, only to find that the old habit is now wrong.

That can create a bigger hassle than taking the wrong bus. These launches cross Seven Seas Lagoon and connect different sides of the water, so a mistake is not as simple as getting off at the next stop and walking back. Guests who board the wrong boat may need to wait, ride back, and start over.

Disney has not said why the dock swap was made or whether it is temporary. Construction on the Magic Kingdom ferryboat dock expansion began in June, and later updates showed walls and a barge near the guest walkway by Seven Seas Lagoon. Disney also has a fourth Magic Kingdom ferryboat scheduled to arrive in 2027.

The practical takeaway is simple. Guests heading to Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Grand Floridian, or Polynesian should look for the destination signs rather than rely on where the boat used to be.
