The last Splash Mountain standing is going offline in January, but Tokyo Disneyland says it will return

Tokyo Disneyland will close Splash Mountain from Jan. 7 to Feb. 4, 2027, with the last operating version of the ride set to reopen Feb. 5.

Splash Mountain is disappearing from Disney parks almost everywhere, which is why Tokyo Disneyland's next closure stands out. The resort has now put dates on a January 2027 shutdown for the final operating version of the attraction, and unlike the U.S. closures, this one is scheduled as a temporary refurbishment.

What changed, and when it affects guests

Tokyo Disneyland has scheduled Splash Mountain to close on January 7, 2027. The attraction is listed as unavailable through February 4, with a reopening date of February 5, 2027.

For Disney fans, that matters because this is the only Splash Mountain still running anywhere in the world. The ride at Tokyo Disneyland's Critter Country has remained largely in its original form, keeping Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, while the American versions were removed and later reopened as Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

The January closure is being presented as refurbishment, not a permanent retirement. Guests visiting during that window will not be able to ride the log flume, which sends eight-person logs through a trip of about 15 minutes before a 52-foot drop at a 45-degree angle. Splash Mountain is also one of the attractions that can use Disney Premier Access at the resort.

It is not the only Tokyo Disneyland ride set to go down around the same time. Peter Pan's Flight is scheduled to close on January 6, Haunted Mansion on January 8, and Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions is also due to be unavailable for much of the winter.

Why this closure draws extra attention

The Tokyo ride has become a focal point because Splash Mountain has already vanished from Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Disney announced in 2020 that both U.S. versions would be replaced with attractions based on The Princess and the Frog. Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain closed permanently in January 2023, Disneyland Park's followed in May 2023, and both returned in 2024 as Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

That history has fueled questions about what happens next in Japan, especially since Tokyo Disneyland's version still uses elements tied to Song of the South. Even so, no permanent replacement has been announced, and the January closure has not been identified as a Tiana conversion.

Speculation has continued as smaller changes have happened around the attraction. Its gift shop closed in November 2024, the ride lost its Kao Corporation sponsorship in 2025, and a sign referencing "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" was removed in early 2026.

For now, the practical takeaway is simple. The world's last operating Splash Mountain is set to be offline for one month at the start of 2027, then return on February 5 if the published schedule holds.
