Disney’s Hexed Trailer Opens the Door to Hexe, but the Real Secret Is Billie and Alice

Disney drops the first Hexed trailer as filmmakers explain the mother-daughter secret driving the witch adventure before Nov. 25.

Disney has released the first full trailer for Hexed, its next animated feature, and the biggest reveal is not just the witch realm itself. The new footage and fresh filmmaker comments point to a story built around a teenager’s hidden power and the mother who tried to keep it under wraps.

A magical world arrives, with a family mystery at its center

The trailer rollout puts Hexed’s premise into sharper focus ahead of its November 25 theatrical debut. Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, is an impulsive 16-year-old who discovers secret magical abilities that had been restrained since childhood. That discovery sends her out of suburbia and into Hexe, a vast witch realm filled with magical creatures and powerful beings.

In the trailer below, Disney frames that journey as both wondrous and dangerous. Billie’s mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, has been trying to keep her away from that world, but the two are forced to navigate it together. Disney’s synopsis says their trip leads them to family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.

The film also gives Billie an unusual helper. Walton Goggins voices Beef Roger Crummchuk, described as a reclusive, magical three-eyed cat.

Why the filmmakers keep coming back to the mother-daughter tension

The creative team says the fantasy setup is carrying something more familiar. Director Fawn Veerasunthorn described Billie’s magic as a stand-in for the hidden potential many teenagers feel bubbling inside them, while also seeing the story through the eyes of a parent trying to balance freedom and safety.

Director Jason Hand said that tension comes from remembering adolescence clearly enough to know how scary it can be to let a teenager take on independence. He said the film digs into that stage of life when young people think they have everything figured out, while parents remember having felt the same way.

Writer Dana Ledoux Miller said she brought her own experience to the script, including growing up feeling she did not fully fit into the close-knit group she was born into. She said motherhood added another layer, because the instinct to protect can sometimes become too much. In her view, Billie and Alice love each other deeply, but are also keeping each other from becoming the best versions of themselves.

Who made Hexed, and when Disney fans can see it

Hexed is directed by Veerasunthorn and Hand, with a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Bush said Ledoux Miller is always searching for the emotional truth in a scene, and he described Disney Animation as a collaborative, iterative environment. Ledoux Miller said their partnership works because they trust each other and do not let ego get in the way.

The cast reaches beyond Steinfeld, Jones and Goggins. Jodie Foster voices the calculating Queen Celeste in her first animated role, and the lineup also includes Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry. Producer Yvett Merino said Foster quickly understood Celeste and took the character further.

For Disney animation fans and families looking ahead to the holiday movie slate, the release date is set. Hexed opens exclusively in theaters on November 25.
