Disney Is About to Have Zero Original Splash Mountains Operating, but Only for a Few Weeks

Tokyo Disneyland will close Splash Mountain from Jan. 7 to Feb. 4, 2027, leaving Disney without an operating original version for nearly a month.

A small calendar update at Tokyo Disneyland carries a big milestone for Disney parks history. When Splash Mountain closes there in January 2027 for refurbishment, Disney will briefly have no operating version of the original attraction anywhere in its parks.

A short closure with a historic twist

Tokyo Disneyland has scheduled Splash Mountain to close on January 7, 2027, according to the park’s refurbishment calendar. The ride is set to remain unavailable through February 4 and reopen on February 5, which points to a temporary maintenance closure rather than a permanent retirement.

That matters because Tokyo Disneyland is the last place where guests can still ride the original Splash Mountain. Disney closed the Magic Kingdom version in January 2023 and shut down Disneyland’s four months later. Both were remade as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, replacing the older characters and music with elements based on The Princess and the Frog.

For guests planning a Tokyo Disneyland visit, January 6 will be the last day to experience Splash Mountain before the work begins. The attraction previously closed for a similar stretch in early 2026.

Why Tokyo’s version stands apart

Tokyo Disneyland’s Splash Mountain opened in October 1992 in Critter Country and has remained a major draw for more than 30 years. Unlike the former American versions, it still features Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear. The attraction runs about 15 minutes, seats eight riders per log and ends with a 52 foot drop at a 45 degree angle. It also offers Disney Premier Access for guests who want to buy a designated return time.

Disney has not said what work will be done during the January refurbishment, and nothing has been announced to suggest a Tiana conversion during this closure. The scheduled reopening also indicates the current story is expected to stay in place for now.

The timing lands during one of Tokyo’s coldest months, when average daytime temperatures are around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, or 10 degrees Celsius, and nights regularly approach freezing. Splash Mountain will also be one of several Tokyo Disneyland attractions down for maintenance in that period. Peter Pan’s Flight and Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions are set to close on January 6, while Haunted Mansion will close on January 8.
