Employee Seeks Legal Advice After Calling 911 for Help When a Faulty Door at the Restaurant Trapped Him Inside for the Night
Poor OP was afraid of losing their job...
Being trapped somewhere and forced to spend the entire night is not pleasant, even if it is in a five-star hotel room with a jacuzzi tub and sauna. The very notion that you can’t get out when you want is enough to make you cringe.
Now imagine being trapped for the night at your job, a restaurant at Walmart. Imagine being stranded, asking your superiors for help, and having them just blow you off.
What’s more, they even make threats about losing your job if you call the fire department. It seems like a nightmare, but this is exactly what happened to Zealousideal-Ebb-481, a fast-food restaurant employee who shared their tale on Reddit.
“I called my manager and was told I’d be stuck here at least all night long, if not longer if they can’t get the door open in the morning,” OP says. The gate door got jammed as they were trying to leave after their shift ended.
“There is no emergency exit in the restaurant; there is one inside Walmart, but I can’t leave the restaurant. There are no windows either,” OP continues.
“My boss made it very clear that I am *not* to call the fire department, as they will ruin the door, and they will be here first thing in the morning…”

The ordeal this poor employee went through is simply appalling. We are not just talking about the fact that they were stranded in a restaurant.
It was just a door jam - a machine without feelings malfunctioning. It can be fixed.
What’s worrying is that people let our OP down. The Walmart manager and the restaurant manager played with them like a ping-pong ball, each one telling OP to call the other.
You would expect more from people. You would expect them to have feelings.
That can’t be fixed.
