Woman Signs For Apartment Loan Alone Then Asks Ex To Cover Half
A loan taken without consent becomes a post-breakup problem.
Years ago, a couple was stuck in an apartment that was falling apart. The walls were worn down, the furniture barely holding together.
The girlfriend wanted out. She wanted something better, something that didn’t feel temporary. Her solution was to take out a bank loan and move immediately.
Her boyfriend didn’t agree.
He has always been against borrowing money, especially from banks. He told her clearly he would rather stay in the old apartment and save up slowly than start their next chapter in debt. It wasn’t a passing comment. He meant it.
She went to the bank anyway.
The loan was taken in her name alone. They moved. They bought new furniture. Life continued. For a while, the argument seemed buried under everyday routines.
Then the relationship ended.
After the breakup, they agreed to split the remaining debt evenly. At the time, it felt like a clean solution. They had both lived there. They had both used the furniture.
But now, years later, he’s struggling financially. He says he can’t afford to keep paying. He also admits he doesn’t want to.
He never agreed to the loan in the first place. He can’t even see how much is left because the account is under her control, and she refuses to share the balance. She also kept most of the furniture.
So he told her he’s done paying. And that’s when things got ugly.

They both enjoyed the improved apartment, but only one person signed for the loan and only one person truly wanted it.
After the breakup, splitting the debt may have felt fair in theory. Now that finances are tight and transparency is missing, fairness feels less clear.
Sometimes a compromise made during love doesn’t survive separation.
