Sketching In Textbooks Is Typically Discouraged, Yet Exceptional Doodles Make It Understandable
Not everyone is a fan of this kind of doodling, though.
Sketching in a textbook is usually a quick way to get scolded. But every once in a while, someone slides a pen under the rules and turns a boring assignment into a full-on mystery you can’t stop staring at.
It starts small, just like those “something seems a bit disjointed” doodles in the margins, except the next page has you wondering if the math homework got replaced by a whole universe of drawings. One kid’s Geometry turns into a snack-related situation, another student apparently learned the food chain the hard way, and somewhere in there, a “tattletale” snitches while someone else is clearly thinking about superhero school.
And then the page hits you with the most important element, plus a motorcycle ride to school that screams “2017 as hell.”

That’s when the “disjointed” teen artwork stops being random and starts looking like a whole storyline hiding in the margins.
The moment you see “Someone was obviously a little hungry in Geometry,” the class turns from lecture to comedy crime scene.
Then you’re hit with the science-class doodle where the kid “sure got an eyeful,” and suddenly the textbook feels less like homework and more like a gallery.
By the time the doodler drops the selfie moment and that motorcycle-to-school panel, you realize these pages are doing way more than “livening up” a lecture.
Even though drawing in textbooks might not be allowed by everyone, it can be a fun way to liven up a boring class.
So, if you're ever feeling bored during a lecture, why not grab a pen and start doodling? You might end up creating something cool that makes the class more enjoyable.
Nobody wants to sit through a boring course when the margins are out here telling better stories.
