Family Feud Erupts Over Secret Meatloaf Recipe: AITA for Refusing to Share?
"OP refuses to share grandma's cherished meatloaf recipe with sister at family dinner, sparking tension and questioning if she's in the wrong - AITA?"
A 29-year-old woman refused to share her grandma’s secret meatloaf recipe, and somehow that turned into a full family dinner blowup. One minute it was “we’re cooking together,” the next it was Amy pushing for the recipe like it was already hers.
The cast is messy in the most delicious way: OP (29F) and her sister Amy (31F) have been at odds for years, and Amy has a history of taking credit for things OP has done. At a dinner with parents, grandparents, and Amy’s new partner, Amy asked for the recipe, then doubled down when OP hesitated.
By the time dessert rolled around, the meatloaf recipe had become the least of everyone’s problems.

So I'm a 29F and my sister, let's call her Amy, is 31F. Our family has always had this tradition of cooking together, and my grandma's meatloaf recipe is the star of every family dinner.
Now, Amy and I have had a rocky relationship for years, with disagreements constantly bubbling up between us. Last week, we had a family dinner with our parents, grandparents, and Amy's new partner.
As we were preparing dinner, Amy casually asked for our grandma's meatloaf recipe, saying she wanted to try making it herself. Knowing how special and cherished this recipe is to me and our grandma, I hesitated.
Amy caught on and insisted, bringing up how our grandma might not always be around to make it. I couldn't shake off the history of tension between us.
Amy has a track record of taking credit for things I've done, and I felt uneasy about her potentially claiming our grandma's recipe as her own. So, I stood my ground and refused to share the recipe, causing a tense atmosphere at the dinner table.
Our parents sided with Amy, labeling me as selfish and overly protective of the recipe. Now, Amy hasn't spoken to me since, and our parents have been urging me to reconsider.
I'm torn between preserving this family tradition and potentially mending my relationship with Amy. So, AITA?

This is just like the family dinner feud where the cousin’s wife asked for Grandma’s secret meatloaf.

That’s when Amy’s “just asking” turned into a demand during the family dinner prep, right in front of the grandparents and her new partner.
OP’s real fear hit the table, because Amy has a track record of taking credit for OP’s work, and the meatloaf recipe feels like the next trophy.
Then the parents stepped in, siding with Amy and calling OP selfish, while Amy went quiet and the tension simmered.
Now Amy hasn’t spoken to OP since that dinner, and OP is stuck deciding whether tradition is worth losing her sister over.

The family dinner did not end well, and nobody’s tasting the meatloaf anymore.
